Chi Lan – Calgary, Alberta

Well, we just got home from a short but GREAT holiday, and I wanted noodle soup… so, we went to Chi Lan as it’s close to home, and delicious!

Originally, I wanted something with a more subtle taste, but when I picked up the menu, I soon realized I was craving for spice!

We ordered a Bun Bo Hue and Hot Wings, and both was as mentioned, spicy! The wings were perfectly fried, and then tossed in a hot sauce. The skin was fried to perfection, with a nice crunch. I asked for the Bun Bo Hue with rice noodles, as it’s easier to eat! I do enjoy the round noodles they usually use, but it splashes the soup all over me… and the splatter look wasn’t what I wanted.

After eating the wings, the Bun Bo Hue wasn’t spicy, and I was able to taste the flavor of it, and it’s subtle hint of sweetness. It was really good!

At the end of the night, it was a great dinner! It’s definitely my go to noodle place! 🙂 Chi Lan is close to home, with reasonable prices and never a disappointment! Be sure to visit them yourself!

7 Seas Seafood & Grill Restaurant – Calgary, Alberta

I had to opportunity to try authentic Filipino food at 7 Seas in Calgary, and it was a little place – which is really easy to miss, as it’s tucked away in a strip mall. However, the food is excellent, and the prices are really reasonable (with large portions).

We started with one of their soups and I”m not sure what it’s called as it was all ordered by a friend. This soup was pretty tasty and not like any other soup we’ve had.

We had their Lumpia which is their spring roll, and they have an amazing and delicious take on it.

We also go to try their fried fish which was perfectly fried to a nice crispy without being dry.

Staying with the fried theme, we got their fried pork skin which is a very common appetizer or snack in the Asian world.

Pretty much what we ate instaead of a variety of started was rice with a popular dish of stewed okra and tomatoes and rice. This was amazing and I think adults and kids of all ages would enjoy this tangy dish.

Overall, it was a fantastic experience and we really enjoyed our time here.

Globefish Sushi & Izakaya – Chinook Centre – Calgary, Alberta

I’ve been craving Sushi for a very long time. To my excitement, Globefish opened up in Chinook Centre, which is a million times more convenient for me than going to Kensington. It is located outside of Chinook Centre, as there is no entrance from the inside of the shopping mall. I find the easiest way to get there would be walking through Shoppers Drug Mart downstairs, or just drive outside around the mall until I see it.

We were lucky to have visited this location with more than 2 people so we were able to order more than usual! We started with their gyoza and they make a terrific gyozas as the skin was thin, the filling was delicious and they pan fried it to perfection!

We all shared the sushi and sashimi platter which was absolutely delicious.

Then we ordered a Cherry Blossom roll which was delicious. It was a salmon and avocado roll wrapped in red tuna! It was amazing!

Even if you’re not a fan of raw seafood, they do offer great cooked rolls, and udon, and other great dishes which I’m sure will satisfy anyone’s tastebuds!

Go For Tea – New Oriental Teahouse – Toronto, Ontario

Great place for Bubble tea off Midland Avenue and McNicoll Avenue, Scarborough, Ontario. They do have 2 locations, but of course… I only went to one of them. We sat down for an “afternoon snack” and there were tables in there having “early dinners” and what not. It was neat! We started with just a slushie drink as it’s a nice light snack. The slush was very flavourful and we enjoyed the extensive menu!

We shared an order of their deep fried porklet, which was really crispy!

When we used to have a place kind of similar to this in Calgary, deep fried lobster balls was something I always enjoyed because it’s salty with a bit of sweetness and it always has a nice texture to me! These lobster balls was better than what Calgary can offer!

They do things from individual hot pot, to bowls of rice and we ordered a rice bowl which was a savoury and tangy with the pickled vegetables and the rice.

This was just a small snack for the 3 of us so that’s all we had! Off to the next stop for us!

Lin Garden Restaurant – Toronto, Ontario

We were in Toronto visiting family a few months ago, and we tried this Chinese – Hakka food near our hotel. We read reviews about it, and all the reviews stated that the food was good, but the place is really dirty.

We ordered deep fried wings, Hakka noodles and Hakka Tofu. The noodles and wings were really well done, and it sure was a different taste than the usual “Chinese” noodles. The tofu dish was good, however, I don’t think the tofu of ours tasted quite right… and the Chinese mushrooms were a bit off. it was full of garlic flavor, but it was still good.

The noodle dish is what we described as “XO sauce” taste, without the spice. It was very unique, and their choice for noodles made it a great experience.

The portions were quite large, and the prices were reasonable. I would return – as it is good and convenient! Lin Garden Restaurant does open quite late, which adds to the convenience!
