1888 Chop House – Banff, Alberta

We delayed our anniversary a bit while we waited for COVID to settle down and when it did, we made it into 1888 Chop House inside the Fairmont Banff Springs for a dessert. We actually stayed at the hotel for this special occasion and even though everything was perfect and professional, I realized that staying home was where I wanted to be. We came downstairs from our room, masks and all and they seated us quickly by the giant fireplace. It was really lovely!! We ordered our fancy drinks and then ordered some late night desserts.

I knew once I sat down that I wanted to enjoy their Nanaimo Bar Cheesecake which was beautifully presented! The cheesecake was coconut which I loved, light and creamy but not heavy. The crust was an oreo crumb and it was the perfect vehicle as it added the texture of crunch!

Just for something different, we ordered the Baked Alaska which was awesome as there was that table-side interaction where they still did the flambe and it looked amazing! I know it doesn’t look great in the picture, but it had amazing ice cream and berry compote. When it’s simple, it has to be perfect and it was! I actually think they called it Baked Alberta, but I don’t have record of it so who knows!!

From our drinks and dessert experience here, I know we’ll have to book in for an actual meal! Hopefully in the near future as I would love to experience this chophouse and honestly it’s always our gift to each other, the Fairmont experience!

Le Fourmil – Canmore, Alberta

This post is actually very late. I’ve been here numerous of times since I’ve first been here. If you were to ask me my favourite bakery – this is it Le Fourmil is an amazing bakery in an great space. I’ve ordered my birthday cake from here, I’ve brought my friends here, my father-in-law, the list goes on.

This particular time I ordered their Almond Croissant and it’s an amazingly flaky croissant with a delicious almond topping with some filling. The croissant has a spectacular texture, and we’ve even tried their chocolate croissant and savoury ones. They’re all amazing.

I’ll never go to a little shop like this without ordering a latte. Their coffees are very tasty, not too strong but they take so much care in everything they make.

There’s plenty of parking here, they used to have a nice space for you to sit down in, but they have chairs outside if you need to eat your purchases right away. Their tarts, breads, pastries, everything is worth a try!! My best advice, keep going back to try everything!

Cacao 70 – Canmore, Alberta

I been trying to get to Cacao 70 for almost a year and I finally got an opportunity to go, and realized all the locations in Calgary are now closed. So we decided to just top off the gas and drive out to Canmore for lunch. Cacao 70 is located in a newer area of Canmore, and it’s a great location and I see a lot of potential here! I’m very excited for them as the place is comfortable with parking!

I ordered their Cacao 70 Signature Mocha and it was just delightful! It warmed me up immediately from the inside as it was nice and hot. I got my mocha with creamy milk chocolate and it was absolutely perfect!

We had to get a hot chocolate as you can’t be here without a chocolate drink, so we got a Spicy Hot Chocolate Torch which was a rich and decadent hot chocolate with torched marshmallows! There was a nice little kick in the hot chocolate as well!

I knew I wanted something sweet to eat and although I was thinking about waffles, I eneded up with their Strawberry & Cheesecake Crepe and the crepe was thin and beautiful, which wrapped a delicious cheesecake filling. There was an amazing berry sauce that topped the crepe and of course you can add a scoop of ice cream and smoother the crepe with chocolate sauce. What a delicious brunch!

For the waffles that everyone said was amazing, we got Choco-nut Waffles and this was a portion of perfectly cooked waffles with hazelnut and light & fluffy whipped cream. This was served with strawberries and banana which was super fun to just dip in the chocolate sauce!

We loved this place, the staff was so friendly and the food was amazing and perfect. We had a fantastic experience here and I have nothing negative to say at all.

Euphoria Cafe – Calgary, Alberta

Browsing around for some hot chocolate during the YYC Hot Chocolate Festival, we found ourselves by the university at Euphoria Cafe was where we ended up.

Once I walked in an looked at their baked good display, this GIANT Carrot Cake caught my eye. I knew I was going to order the cake with their special Pumpkin Hot Chocolate which I knew the cake would pretty much be my dinner! The hot chocolate was a dark chocolate hot chocolate and the carrot cake was full of spices and perfectly spiced and sweet.

We also ordered a Earl Grey honey tea latte which was lightly sweetened and had a delicate earl grey tea flavour. With this hot drink, we ordered their Vanilla Cruffin which was an airy croissant in a muffin tin! It was hollow with vanilla filling inside. It was amazing! This should be a must try on your list as it’s something different and special.

Overall, this was an excellent place where we ended up. I settled up my laptop, did a whole lot of picture transfers and it there was still lots of space where I didn’t feel like I should pack up and make room for others. There was free parking here as well, for 2 hours!

Meet Fresh – Las Vegas, Nevada

We recently went to Las Vegas and I traveled with some friends who enjoys Asian desserts so we found ourselves at Meet Fresh at Las Vegas’s Chinatown. I promise to edit the picture one day so you can see it better as well! This location is in a strip plaza so there’s ample parking and the space here is pretty big for a dessert place!

We ordered 2 desserts and shared them between the 4 of us. It sounds absolutely strange, but we had their Icy Taro Ball which was actually really good! It’s a bowl of shaved ice with Taiwanese boba and mochi like “balls” in both taro and yam flavour. It was actually tasty and I don’t know how to make it sound good. It’s not sweet of a dessert like a lot of our Chinese desserts, but it definitely hit the spot

The other dessert we ordered was a their Tofu Dessert which is something I can make but it’s always nice to have a hot smooth gingery dessert to eat!!

This was a great place to visit. The subtle sweet and a big of dessert is always welcome especially with great company! Although this is a chain internationally, it’s still a great place to go!
