Tommy’s Neighborhood Pub – Banff, AB

Everyone who knows me know I love Banff and I love perogies. It just happened that one day walking by Tommy’s Neighborhood Pub I noticed perogies were on special – so we ventured in to eat. This little pub is located on the lower level off Banff Avenue.

Once we got seated and got our drink, as mentioned I already knew I wanted to have their Perogies which are potato and cheddar stuffed perogies served with sour cream, garlic and bacon dip. These little perogies were quite good.

The other dish we ordered was their Steak Sandwich which is an 6oz sirloin steak sandwich served on garlic toast. The steak was tender and juicy so it was absolutely delicious.

Overall, I really enjoyed my time here. It’s a great place to dine and watch the people enjoy their time in Banff.

Rockin Horse Cafe – Balzac, AB

A really neat place we stopped at for breakfast one morning was the Rockin Horse Cafe in Balzac and it’s a gas station with a cafe in it. It was actually really neat and it’s just off the highway pass the railway tracks.

We were here to grab a quick bite breakfast on the beginning leg of a road trip. I had ordered the Breakfast Sandwich which was like a sandwich with egg, bacon and cheese. It was really good actually! I love grilled cheese sandwiches with bacon in it, so this was one with an egg!

My husband decided to try the Rockin’ Horse Original which was a breakfast with 2 eggs, ham, home fries and toast. It’s almost like a Asian breakfasts so he really enjoyed it!

This was a great little stop and definitely a place where the locals go, as everyone seemed to know everyone – giving us really funny looks. The food was good and quite cheap as well! I would recommend Rockin Horse cafe if you’re in this area looking for breakfast!

Tooloulou’s Restaurant – Banff, AB

Banff is one of my most favourite places to go to! I especially love this place for the different types of delicious food and stumbling into Tooloulou’s Restaurant was no exception. This place has Louisiana style food which was a nice treat from other cuisines around town. Located right on Caribou Street, just off Banff Avenue is this little gem.

We sat down and ordered some Alligator Bites which was a plate of alligator peices fried to a nice crisp with some dipping sauce. These were really good and quite amazing, we didn’t even need the sauce.

We also shared a Seafood Gumbo which was seafood stew with shrimp, clams, scallops, sausage and vegetables served over Cajun dirty rice. It was a delicious stew and it even came with some cornbread on the side.

Then, we shared their Shrimp Quesadilla which wasn’t anything too unusal, but it was a really good quesadilla as it’s not the normal protein suspect. I do love shrimp and I love quesadilla’s.. so, you put it together – I’m in love!

As everything tasted so delicious, we figured we’ll stuff ourselves to the max and order some dessert. We tried their Southern Pecan Pie and unfortunately this was the one thing we could have done without. It wasn’t very fresh and the pecans were soft and chewy as though it has been in the fridge too long. We actually didn’t finish off the dessert which was too bad.

Overall, we loved this place! We would be back for meals, and probably just wouldn’t end it with a dessert from here. There were other options, but the waiter did recommend this pie to us. We definitely enjoyed the alligator bites and gumbo though!

Denny’s – Calgary, AB

I recently went for breakfast at Denny’s in the south. I don’t noramlly go to chain restaurants for breakfast, but this time we felt like it. We went to the Denny’s just off Barlow Trail and 114th Ave with the gas station. It’s quite a large facility and a truck stop as well. Inside was really clean and spacious!

It was breakfast and I ordered their Blueberry Pancake Breakfast which was two buttermilk pancakes with blueberries inside. With the breakfast, I also got two eggs, hash browns and sausage. It was quite a large breakfast, but I had a big day ahead of me, so I ate it up.

My husband ordered their Country Fried Steak & Eggs A golden-fried chopped beef steak smothered in rich country gravy. Served with two eggs, hash browns and toast. My husband had a fabulous time here as they prepared their hashbrowns to his favourite way! shredded!

Overall, we had an enjoyable time at Denny’s and it’s good to know this location is 24 Hrs, so we can always get something to eat – anytime!

Gus’s Corner Restaurant – Drumheller, AB

We made it to Drumheller again as we really like going to Royal Tyrrell Museum and usually when we go there, we need to eat, either before or after we go to the museum. This time, we decided to stop at Gus’s Corner Restaurant basically located in their downtown. It’s pretty easy to find with lots of parking.

For this dinner, we had ordered their House Lasagna which came in a big individual sized dish with layers of lasagna and baked to awesome! This lasagna had tons of meat sauce and cheese throughout, and of course cheese on top.

We also ordered their Chicken Club Wrap with crispy fried chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato and cheese in a wrap, served with fries on the side. The fried chicken was really good – not greasy but crispy and juicy! It was quite a refreshing wrap and I enjoyed it!

Overall, we had a magnificent time here! The food was great, the service was minimal, but we didn’t need anything. The prices were at par with other places around town – so we had no complaints!
