Sockeye City Grill – Richmond, British Columbia

We were travelling to British Columbia, into Vancouver as our friend wanted us to tag along to his work conference.. so we did! We’re not hard to convince to do things if we have some interest. We got off the plane, got our rental vehicle and made our way to Steveston which is in Richmond, BC. We were hungry and found ourselves gravitating towards Sockeye City Grill. When we got here, the rain let off and a bit of sun came out so we even sat on the patio.

There was 4 of us in total, and all we wanted was their Fish & Chip Platter, and thiw was amazing. A 2 tiered platter full of fried goodness right! This platter offered a piece each of cod, halibut and salmon, with 2 oysters, 4 prawns, and a giant portion of lemon coriander crusted calamari, and a bed of fries.

The service was great, the ambient was fun as we were outside on the patio watching both locals and tourists walk around. Most importantyly, the food was amazing and the weather held up for us! We even got to walk around and tried to find the areas where a show my friend watched was filmed. She was so excited! It was a great afternoon!

Asia Submarine – Calgary, Alberta

A coworker knew I was looking for a good banh mi sandwich and he told me to go check out this little place, and you get a delicious sandwich for about $5!! He sold me so that weekend, we went to Asia Submarine on 17th Avenue. There was a lot of parking and this deli is tucked away in the corner but near the gas station.

I of course ordered the Banh Mi sandwich, which they called Assorted Cold Cut Sandwich, which was filled of their deli meats on a nice bun. I think I would have preferred it if they toasted the buns, but as it’s a cold cut one, it didn’t actually bother me too badly.

The other sub that we ordered was their Satay Beef Sandwich, and the flavours were fragrant. There wasn’t a ton of filling in the sub, but it wa s a fair amount. On this sub, it would have been really nice to toast the bun and just to heat up the meat, but it wasn’t a huge deal. It was very satisfying and so I was excited I made the effort to come.

Overall, the place was nice! I think there is room for improvement, but seriously at $5, it was perfect! The service was fast, and friendly and the submarines were tasty! There’s not exactly anything to actually complain about! We had a fantastic time!

Analog Coffee (17th Ave SW) – Calgary, Alberta

We were looking for a nice place to sit down and do a bit of blogging. I enjoy going to Analog and it is a place that makes me happy, any of their locations. This day we went to their 17th Avenue location.

I love ordering Mocha as it’s coffee and chocolate mix. It’s always a delicious choice. The nice thing about Analog is that they always do their latte art, no matter what! I always appreciate a simple thing like that and I never mind waiting a few extra minutes for a pretty drink.

I ordered an Apple Cinnamon Scone and to be honest, it was rather dry. It tasted good, but it just wasn’t what I would expect from here.

We also ordered their Ham and Cheese Croissant as it was a bit of a lunch during this visit. This was really delicious as they heated it back up, and the croissant was light and flaky!

My other half ordered a Latte which was a smooth and creamy latte and he enjoyed it thoroughly. I enjoyed it as well, especially next to my scone!

Overall, this place is a great place to go. This isn’t our first time here and it won’t be our last. We enjoy Fratello’s coffee! There’s not always a table for you as a lot of people do sit down. We didn’t stay too long but there was a quiet period around 3PM so we stayed until the next pocket of busyness. Parking was alright for us as well since we lucked out with the timing.

State & Main Kitchen & Bar – Calgary, Alberta

It was New Years Eve and we needed to eat something before heading over to friends place to ring in the new year. I didn’t know where to go, but I didn’t want to go far and a good friend told me to try State & Main in Mahogany. There we went! We were lucky as it was New Years Eve and a lot of other places were closed at this hour, so there was a continual rotation of parking opportunities. The place was busy and you can tell a lot of their customers were going to go to parties afterwards as well. It was a very festive atmosphere!

I knew the night ahead of me would have food and drinks so I didn’t require a lot. I got their Chicken Cheesesteak Sandwich and it was a very large portion and of course I got it with fries and gravy!

We also ordered their Main Burger as it seemed like something they’d be known for. More fries and more gravy! This was a delicious mess of goodness with the normal burger suspects of melted american cheese topped w/ lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle & sauce with 2 patties!

State and Main here in Mahogany was very delightful. We definitely ate more than expected as the potion sizes were larger than expected. And, with it being cold I ate everything! The prices were very reasonable, great food and excellent service. It was busy but they were mostly under control! We had an amazing time so I am sure I will return as it’s close, and awesome! I did have a site supervisor tell me he liked it here as well not too long ago. Maybe I’ll be creepy and try to bump into him one day…

Local Public Eatery – Medicine Hat, Alberta

I feel like I’ve been telling my life story lately. I’m not sorry it’s been very wordy.. as it’s been an interesting period of my life. Where I go, what I do, who I’m with has been changing and I’m reflecting. Medicine Hat is a city I spent a lot of time in as a young girl when we first came to Calgary. On this particular day I followed my grandmas sister-in-law and her daughters to Medicine Hat. We did a nice blast into the past and required lunch so we found Local Public Eatery and they had space for all 6 of us.

We ordered refreshing drinks on this super hot 30C+ day and some food. I wanted something a tad “lighter” and went for Tuna Club Sandwich, which was really amazing and large portions. I actually got scolded for not finishing my lunch! I don’t remember the last time I didn’t finish and got in trouble. Oh family!

My husband had an interesting trip on Medicine Hat journey. He knows my past but never to this extent. Things I’ve told him got verified today and we learned a lot of new things as well. But, his lunch was a giant portion of their Local Burger! Him and my second cousin devoured their entire plates! It was insane! I just didn’t want to be too full as the 3 hour trip home would make me sick if I ate it all.

On and on I talk about the trip I had so now I will go back to Local. The service was great, the bathroom doors were really heavy (I am super weak as well though…) the space was large, the food was so good! I loved our time here! We parked blocks away as we were doing other things. This place now has a place in my heart. I haven’t been back to Medicine Hat since this history lesson day but I know I will, and I will likely stop in here with some other places!
