Hilltop Diner – Langley, British Columbia

On our drive to Vancouver, we’ve heard amazing stories and reviews about Hilltop Diner and also watched Food Networks You Gotta Eat Here come by this location – so we HAD to make a stop and visit this lovely establishment!

Once we got a seat after a long wait as they’re very popular (and well worth the wait), we got our menus. After we ordered, I think the waitresses realized I was taking pictures of everything and shared their scrapbook with us. This amazing scrapbook is filled with memorabilia of films/movies and shows that used this restaurant! If you’re interested, I’d recommend asking to see it! Shortly after we started flipping through this scrapbook, our order of the soup of the day came, which was Turkey Dumpling soup. This soup was really amazing and I’ve actually have had nothing like it before!

I ordered their Classic Burger which I figured if it’s “classic”, it’s probably pretty awesome and popular! This amazing burger had a 5oz patty with fried onions and the classic toppings of lettuce, tomatoes and pickles. The thing that really stood out was the sauce they used on the burger, it was very tasty!

My husband ordered their Mushroom Mozza Burger which was another super delectable burger! This burger had a 5oz patty with mushrooms under melted mozza cheese, and also topped with their classic toppings of lettuce, tomatoes and pickles. Instead of fries, we got onion rings with this burger, and I love onion rings, and they did a good batter and fry here!

You would think after eating burgers the size of our heads, we would be so stuffed and call it a day. However, this diner is known for their homemade pies, so there was no way I was going to leave without getting a slice. We ordered a rustic pie, which not many people know about, it’s the Flapper Pie and secretly it’s a pie I hope becomes as popular as Apple Pies! This pie had the perfect graham crust with a perfectly creamy custard filling – just the way it’s suppose to be (not with jello custard)!

Overall, this place was amazing! If it wasn’t so far out of the way, I wish I could visit here more often and try other selections on their menu!

Sidewalk Citizen Bakery – Calgary, Alberta

I love bakeries and cafes, and when I heard about Sidewalk Citizen Bakery, I knew it was a place where I needed to go. We ventured to Sidewalk Citizen Bakery on a weekend, and they had a lot of people in line, ordering from loaves to pastries, and even sandwiches!

We were just stopping by basically just for a quick snack on our way to lunch. I love Pain au Chocolat, so naturally, it was something I got. The pastry was flaky, the chocolate wasn’t too sweet or too bitter.

We also go something different, a Cheese Croissant which was amazing. The cheese was in the croissant, and it was crispy and awesome! It wasn’t as greasy as you would imagine it to be, so it was still very light and fluffy!

Overall, it as an amazing experience here at Sidewalk Citizen Bakery! We decided next time we drop by, it will be for an actual sandwich, and for lunch – instead of a snack! I’m sure that will make my picnic perfect!

Hoang Long Noodle House – Edmonton, Alberta

We often stop by West Edmonton Mall when we go visit Edmonton, even though we may have nothing to get there or anything. This time, we just walked a circle and the decided we will get a quick bowl of pho before heading home. Located right inside the mall – outside of the supermarket we found Hoang Long and it wasn’t busy – but had a few tables.

Once inside, we pretty much got to sit where ever we wanted as they were not busy. The menu was kind of neat as it’s quite customizable by picking options of what you want in your noodle soup. I wasn’t feeling that great so just wanted to stick with my favourite, so I got the Beef Noodle Soup with Beef Balls as that’s the “1 item option.

My hsuband got pretty much the same thing, but his was Beef Noodle Soup with Rare Beef instead. It was quite rare and tender! the bowls of soup was average in size and the prices seems high for a bowl of pho, but the location was nice.

Overall, the food was decent. It wasn’t the best but it’s nice to sit down in a mall to eat dinner that isn’t your typical chain restaurant or bar/pub. For basically $20, you can’t go wrong on a nice hot bowl of noodle soup.

Hooters (Barlow Trail) – Calgary, Alberta

Hooters has always been a restaurant franchise that had made a nice name for themselves, so when we heard that Hooters was closing their Calgary locations – we had to try it before they left!

We went in quite late – and Hooters does close at 10pm, so we pretty much just made it in time for their last call. We sat down and ordered their Fried Pickles which wasn’t what we were expecting as we normally think of spears of pickles – but it actually grew on us! It was pretty good!

Of course, we don’t go to a place like this and not order wings, so we had a some Salt and Pepper Wings and we had a few of their Hot Wings. Their wings were pretty decent in size and they were fried quite nicely. The hot wings was awesome as it was covered in hot sauce – making it a saucy, delicious mess!

Our overall experience here was quite decent! It wasn’t busy, but they still had a few tables. The service was really nice and the food was decent. It’s not a bad place to sit down for some pub grub!

Wendy’s Macleod Trail South – Calgary, Alberta

A random day before we were goign to meet up with some friends I figured I was hungry and it will be awhile before we eat again, so we decided to pre-eat dinner and grab a burger! While driving closer towards where we were going to meet up, we saw Wendy’s and decided to take a quick detour.

This Wendy’s is quite new looking as though they recently did some renovations – from the inside and outside. Wendy’s was having their annual Cod Fillet Sandwich promotion on again, so we took their North Pacific Cod Meal to share!

The meal was really good and the fish burger was fantastic! It was flaky, tender, and quite delicious! Not too much condiments which helps bring out the fish in the burger instead of masking it! The burger was topped with dill tartar sauce and crunchy dill pickles. The light panko batter was light and crispy. All on a warm buttered bun. It was amazing!

Overall, this was quite a wonderful stop! We really thought the parking lot was a little weird, but everything else here was quite amazing. I did find it a tad strange there was a slice of cheese on it – and I’m not sure if it was suppose to be there… but it was ok.
