Insomnia Coffee Company – Calgary, Alberta

Everytime I’m downtown at Olympic Plaza I always walk by Insomnia Coffee Company and has always wanted to just sit down by the window and watch the hussle of people going by! I finally did that, and this cafe is very modern, clean, and quite good! It is a really good coffee house in town, and the coffee is quite strong! The latte art wasn’t as nice as some, but something is definitely better than nothing!

Even though I didn’t try their baked good, they sure look really tasty and fresh! And, that’s amazing, considering I visited this cafe on a weekend! I just sat down and enjoyed a wonderful cup of latte and it was so relaxing – and watching the festivals outside their large windows.

Overall, this place is wonderful! They welcome you with warm smiles, and they don’t mind if you sit there and do nothing but stare out the window! 🙂 I’ll recommend this location if you’re in the area looking for a nice cup of coffee!

Higher Ground Cafe – Calgary, Alberta

I have been craving for a Cafe Rolo or some sort of Rolo Latte for awhile now. I’ve recently been to many coffee shops to see where I can find one! I found one here at Higher Ground Cafe in Kensington. Even though they don’t do foam/latte art, it’s still a good cup of coffee!

The Cafe Rolo is one of Higher Ground’s specialty coffees made with espresso, hot chocolate, caramel and whipped cream. It one quite delicious and it’s definitely sweet enough. The whipped cream is also a home made chocolate one which really adds lot of flavour to the coffee. I normally don’t order drinks with whipped cream, but this was my special case scenario! I had it and loved it! This drink, I would highly recommend.

The lattes from Higher Ground are quite typical, and it’s actually a lot milkier than an average latte. It’s not bad, but it’s not rich and creamy the way I prefer my lattes… unless they didn’t actually use the 2% milk! 🙂 Which is fine too!

Lido Cafe Ltd – Calgary, Alberta

We made it to Lido Cafe Ltd right before the Sun and Salsa festival started – as I was starving and needed something to eat! We randomly walked into Lido without knowing anything, sat down and looked at the menu. The first thing that popped in our minds was “random”. This menu had American breakfast and lunch menu items and Chinese lunch and dinner menu items. The place is ran by Chinese, so it was really neat.

When we were seated in a booth with a jukebox hanging off the side, we were even more confused! This place is wonderful, as it’s got no specific theme or anything! I’m sure if you want something – anything, they would have it!

All joking aside, we did go for an American breakfast, as we ordered a French Toast with Sausage and a Breakfast Special with Sausage which included 2 eggs, hash-browns, toast and your choice of ham, bacon or sausage. It was a great deal, and since we went on Sunday, they served this all day long!!

The food tasted just fine, the price is just right, so, nothing wrong with that! 🙂

JoJo’s BBQ – Calgary Food Truck

After watching a lot of Food Network Canada and the new series called Eat St. I’ve been craving food from a food truck! To my excitement, there was one in Calgary that was up and running – and it was the glorious JoJo’s BBQ.

We were there right when they opened, and I could smell their smokiness already from the parking lot closer to Barbeques Galore! I got really excited!

We ordered a Smoked Pulled Pork Sandwich and it was really something special! The meat was tender and juicy! We did add extra barbeque sauce into this sandwich and it was really good!! I think it needed more salt or something – otherwise, not bad at all!

We also ordered the Smoked Sliced Brisket Sandwich and that was a sandwich with lots of slices of brisket! The brisket was really tender and smoky! I didn’t add extra barbeque sauce to this sandwich, but none-the-less, still an awesome lunch!

This is a food truck that is worth trying! 🙂 I really enjoyed the experience, and I’m so excited to see it’s a new growing trend!!

The Eddie Burger & Bar – Banff, Alberta

I’m in Banff a lot as it’s a wonderful place to go. I’ve see an Eddie Burger car that is usually parked on the side street which is quite unusal for of marketing. But, I must say – it works! It brought me in after a few visits in Banff. One thing that really pushed me in the doors was the fact they were reviewd by Food Network Canada, so I knew it was a special place and I had to go visit.

I was definitely not hungry when I arrived at Eddie Burger, we made it into Banff rather spontaneously, right after a Stampede Breakfast. So, we ordered the Eddie Classic Burger made with a giant Alberta beef patty and topped with aged cheddar, double smoked bacon, grilled red onion, dill pickle, mayo, green leaf lettuce and tomato on a whole wheat bun.

We got Onion Strings on the side as I’ve been wanting onion rings for a very long time. This burger is huge, and very delicious!! The beef patty is juicy and tender – which makes or breaks a burger (in this case it MAKES the burger so special!)

We had an order of Chili Cheese Fries which was a huge bowl of french fries topped with white cheddar cheese curds and home-style veggie chili. It was really good, and I’m sure I could have ordered it on it’s own. Needless to say, the meal was not finished. But, even though we were extremely stuffed, we managed to finish the delicious burger!
