Chatime – Calgary, Alberta

Recently, bubble tea places has been popping up around Calgary alot, and when we heard of Chatime in Chinatown, we knew we wanted to try this place out! Located right on Centre Street, a small store front exists with just a few tables – and they have only bubble tea.

We’ve been here twice now and both times, the drinks were pretty good. It does take a LONG time for your drink to come, and double check your order as we’ve been getting mix ups, or them forgetting items that you’ve paid for. The nice thing about here, you can really customize your drink with the amount of sweetness, ice and there are tons of toppings you can put in your drink.

I ordered their Chocolate Hazelnut Milk Tea and they didn’t goof it up -but it didn’t taste the same as my first time here. So, I think they may need a big more consistency – or there’s something going on as the wait is quite long for a bubble tea. The milk tea is quite nice though and you do get the chocolate/hazelnut taste!

We also ordered the Jasmine Milk Tea and usually with the toppings is where they seem to mess us – so if you ordered any toppings, just be sure to double check it. They do give you a bit of hassle, but ultimately – you paid for it! The Jasmine Milk tea is really good as well though!

Overall, their drinks are quite good. It can be worth the wait if they get it right! It’s a neat little place to go to! Make sure you do have some time as the first time we were there, we waiting over 40 minutes for the drinks. The second time was about 20 minutes. So, I would like to think they’re getting better!

Hooters (Barlow Trail) – Calgary, Alberta

Hooters has always been a restaurant franchise that had made a nice name for themselves, so when we heard that Hooters was closing their Calgary locations – we had to try it before they left!

We went in quite late – and Hooters does close at 10pm, so we pretty much just made it in time for their last call. We sat down and ordered their Fried Pickles which wasn’t what we were expecting as we normally think of spears of pickles – but it actually grew on us! It was pretty good!

Of course, we don’t go to a place like this and not order wings, so we had a some Salt and Pepper Wings and we had a few of their Hot Wings. Their wings were pretty decent in size and they were fried quite nicely. The hot wings was awesome as it was covered in hot sauce – making it a saucy, delicious mess!

Our overall experience here was quite decent! It wasn’t busy, but they still had a few tables. The service was really nice and the food was decent. It’s not a bad place to sit down for some pub grub!

Wendy’s Macleod Trail South – Calgary, Alberta

A random day before we were goign to meet up with some friends I figured I was hungry and it will be awhile before we eat again, so we decided to pre-eat dinner and grab a burger! While driving closer towards where we were going to meet up, we saw Wendy’s and decided to take a quick detour.

This Wendy’s is quite new looking as though they recently did some renovations – from the inside and outside. Wendy’s was having their annual Cod Fillet Sandwich promotion on again, so we took their North Pacific Cod Meal to share!

The meal was really good and the fish burger was fantastic! It was flaky, tender, and quite delicious! Not too much condiments which helps bring out the fish in the burger instead of masking it! The burger was topped with dill tartar sauce and crunchy dill pickles. The light panko batter was light and crispy. All on a warm buttered bun. It was amazing!

Overall, this was quite a wonderful stop! We really thought the parking lot was a little weird, but everything else here was quite amazing. I did find it a tad strange there was a slice of cheese on it – and I’m not sure if it was suppose to be there… but it was ok.

Catch & The Oyster Bar – Calgary, Alberta

We met up with some friend one evening at the Catch & The Oyster Bar right on Stephens Avenue, downtown Calgary inside the Hyatt Regency Calgary Hotel. It’s a lovely place and the location is actually larger inside than it looks!

Once we sat down and ordered, they gave us quite a bit of bread and butter. To be honest, we were saving our bellies for the main attraction for this visit.

We started with a bowl of soup, where we ordered their Seafood & Bacon Chowder and this chowder was jammed pack with seafood and flavours. It was really fresh and delicious with the perfect texture and creaminess without being greasy.

Now, for the main attraction, we got their Large Chilled Seafood Platter and it’s as large and impressive as you can imagine it in your mind, and exceed that image’s expectation! This platter had 1 lobster, 4 snow crab clusters, 12 oysters, 16 mussels, 16 clams and 16 large shrimps! The Oysters they gave us was 8 BC and 8 PEI oysters so we can taste the difference. Everything on this plate was so good, and we all over ate – yet couldn’t stop eating!

Overall, there’s not a bad thing we can think of to say about here! The place was clean, cozy, comfortable, yet casual. The food was fantastic, the service was awesome!

Red Lobster – Lobsterfest

For many years, I’ve seen TV commercials for Red Lobster’s Lobsterfest and I’ve never had the chance to go. This year, I said “we’re going!” and we did make it to Lobsterfest while the promotion was still on! We went to the location in Calgary on Macleod Trail – which is a location where I’ve been to a few times already. The place seems to be newly renovated inside and it seems more spacious and brighter – which is nice. It still has an intimate feel to it too!

We started with an appetizer, and decided to have an order of their White Wine and Roasted Garlic Mussels which is a big bowl of steamed mussels with white wine and roasted garlic and tomatoes. There was also some really nice bread to soak up the sauce, and both the bread and sauce was excellent!

When you order a meal, it comes with soup or salad to start, and I actually upgraded my soup to their Lobster Bisque which is something I love. Here, it wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t my favourite cup of lobster bisque.

For the other meal, we decided to just stick with their Garden Salad with dressing. It was very typical but it’s nice to have the greens in a meal such like this one!

My main order was their Dueling Lobster Tails which was a generous portion of 2 lobster tails. Once was a crab-and-seafood stuffed Maritime lobster tail, and a Maritime lobster tail topped with creamy roasted-garlic shrimp. Both the tails were excellent in taste and texture and although they are the same type of lobster tail, it was nice to see the difference in preparation!

The other main entree we had was their Lobster Lover’s Dream which was a dream – a lobster dream! This plate had a succulent rock lobster tail and sweet split Maritime lobster tail, roasted and served with lobster-and-shrimp linguini Alfredo. The Rock Lobster tail was not only beautiful to look at, it was the best lobster this evening. Plain, simple, and perfect!

The size of the lobster tails was surprisingly large in size considering an entree has 2 of them! They were cooked really well, and seasoned well. This was an amazing experience at lobsterfest! I’m sure we’ll be back again!
