Douglas Peking Express

In search for a great take out place with Chinese Food for lazy cold winter days, I found myself trying Douglas Peking Express in Douglas Glen in Southeast Calgary. The food was better than the Chinese take out place in McKenzie Towne, so I would go the extra distance for Chinese food here.

We didn’t do take out this time, as we wanted to try out the Chinese experience. They were decent! The neat thing was, there was people who continually came in to either place take out orders or pick up their orders! It gave me great confidence that the food was good!

We ordered fried rice and Shanghai noodles, which are 2 of our favourites! And, needless to say, we did like the quality of food here. The lunch menu that we saw seemed very attractive as well – even though we haven’t had a chance to try it out yet.

Rocky Mountain Bagel Company – Canmore, Alberta

I heard lots of great things about the Rocky Mountain Bagel Company in Canmore! So, we woke up one day while we were staying out in Canmore and decided to try for ourselves. The places is very comfortable, and very welcoming!

We ordered 2 bagels and 2 hot chocolates, and were given a colored spoon to put on our table. When the order was ready, they would come by and give us our order. It was a really neat system they had. I found it hard to tell some spoons apart from others, but I guess they’re us to it!

The bagel sandwiches were really fresh! They’re amazing!! The bagels had a nice consistency and the sandwiches were fresh! I had the Mountaineer and that bagelwich was filled with Cream Cheese, Montreal Smoked Beef, and toppings like Lettuce, Tomato, and Onions.

The other sandwich that we ordered was the Smoked Turkey Bagelwich and that was delicious and fresh as well. The best part was the food was relatively inexpensive for what it was, and where it was too!

Ruby Thai Kitchen – Calgary, Alberta

Ruby Thai Kitchen is at the Food Court of South Centre Mall in Calgary! I especially enjoy their spicy beef noodle soup – but this time, I tried their food that was out already as it was close to their closing time.

I didn’t enjoy the food that was sitting out in the buffet. It was dry, but as mentioned, it may be because it was the end of the day.

But having the noodle soup is definitely the place to go for this mall’s food court!

Glamorgan Bakery – Calgary, Alberta

I love bakeries and when I heard about Glamorgan, I had to try it! We got cinnamon buns with cream cheese icing, and some sausage rolls to eat! We loved both of them, and would highly recommend it to anyone. They make lots of types of loaves of bread and buns, and specialties such as scones and cakes and other great home made looking desserts.

I also really love cookies and other desserts, so I am really excited for the next time I have a chance to stop by to purchase more baked goodies!

The sausage roll that I enjoyed was really enjoyable. It had a perfect flaky crust around a huge handful of sausage roll filling. Yes, the pastry was greasy, but that’s what gives it the buttery flakes — resulting in irresistible sausage rolls!

The cinnamon buns were perfect! We heat it up just a tad, and the cream cheese icing is like no other icing I’ve had with cinnamon buns before. These are a must try!!

Prince Seafood Restaurant – Calgary, Alberta

Prince Seafood Restaurant is a pretty decent dim sum restaurant. I would say the dim sum tastes alright, but for it’s price, it’s not cheap either! Sure, it’s not as expensive as some other places, but it’s pretty high for it’s taste and quality!

Price does have some very unique dim sum that I really enjoyed! They have this crispy crepe dish that is really good fresh! I would probably be back for that!

We went just before Chinese New Years, and they had turnip cakes for sale — so, of course I ordered a plate during my dim sum experience first… and I was actually disappointed with it! It tasted burnt, and if you look at the picture… it doesn’t look burnt. So, I never actually got to buy any lo bak gao to take home.

Another really disappointment dish I had was the lau sha bao — which when made, creamy egg yolk would ooze out when you eat it. This one.. it was oozing oil, and a lot of it. It made it really distinguishing to eat.

My overall experience would be decent. I’ll stick to the regular dim sum and be a little bit adventurous at times. But, chances are I won’t be back. For the distance to get here, I would go elsewhere with better quality dim sum. I don’t mind the price tag if it’s actually worth it.
