It has been awhile since the last time I’ve found myself in this McDonalds as there are soo many other great options to eat at. I do like this McDonalds as it’s very comfortable with a nice cozy fireplace… and automated garbage compressors! They even said “Thank you” after you gave it garbage!
I’ve found myself going to other places now, but it’s not because it tastes bad — as mentioned, there’s so many other choice and options that seem like a better idea to try than a McDonalds you can get from anywhere!
We did order 2 Sausage and Egg McMuffins combos for breakfast, and everything was really fresh. It tasted great!
Yes please! I would love a second cup from the Second Cup on High Street! I really enjoy going to this cozy location, with great service, comfortable seating, and most of all – great coffee!! I’ve tried a huge selection from coffee alternatives such as chai and hot chocolates, as well as lattes and mocha’s! They never seem to fail here, and I can sit here for a while and not feel like they’re glaring at me to leave. It normally is a really relaxing location and it doesn’t get “busy”. Of course, it’s constant in and out, but it’s never jammed packed or anything!
I really enjoy the Holiday London Fog during the Christmas season! It’s really different than the London Fog, and I just enjoy it a lot more! An all year round drink that I like is the Chai Tea Latte, which is spiced up a lot more than other Coffee Places.
For days near Christmas and the holiday season, I have TONS of favourite drinks! From Eggnog Lattes to Peppermint Hot Chocolates, these drinks really put me in the festive mood!
In the summer, I really enjoy my Frrrozen Hot Chocolate or even a Chai Chiller! They are both really good and full of flavour and a perfect cool down on a hot summer day!! If I’m looking for a nice ice cold refreshing drink, I do find myself ordering Sparkling Green Tea Lemonade which is really a Green Tea Lemonade with carbonation!
And, another Fall Favourite would definately be the Pumpkin Spiced Latte or really, anything Pumpkin spice! Second Cup makes a lot of their drinks with warm, rich, delicious flavours that sure satisfies my tastebuds!
In general, I can find something year round at my favourite Second Cup, and the one on High Street is just cozier than the rest — landing it top marks in my books!
There’s a lot to do in Calgary, and this year, I got do participate a bit with the fun in the sun – the Lilac Festival which is located on 4th Street from 10am to 6pm, and the Lilac Festival is normally a 1 day event on a Sunday.
This year, probably had a huge turn out as the weather was really nice, just perfect for outdoor festivities. The streets are full of kiosks that sell items, information and even food!! It’s a great place to sample cuisine up and down 4th street, and in and out around that area!
The lilac festival was full of people, and street entertainers that really attracted a large crowd! Perfect day to spend some time outside with the entertainers and watch them perform!
One of the best things about the Lilac Festival was the fact PC Loblaws Summer Tour joined in the fun and excitement, as they served up samples of their great summer BBQ products!! It was quite the line up, and quite worth it!! We went to Superstore the next day and told ourselves we’ll be purchasing a lot of their products for our next barbeque!
First they gave you a drink, a sample of their sparkling fruit juice. I tried the Peach Mango, and we also got to try the Orange Tangerine flavours – both were excellent! When I went to the store, I saw the same thing, but it was a mocktail, and purchased that instead of juice. It sure is better than coolers, as it doesn’t have the alcohol, and it tasted delicious!
Following that, we got a sample of either a burger slider or a mini sausage. Of course, there are 2 of us, so we had one of each! The sausage was really juicy and jammed packed with flavour! The casing wasn’t tough, it was really quite perfect! The slider was juicy as well – for some reason I thought it would be dry as burgers can tend to be dry, and it would be more prone to drying out as it was small. It wasn’t the case, which was excellent!
Then, the last stop was for ice cream! They had the cutest mini cones, which was the perfect amount for samples! I tried to super delicious Strawberry Shortcake Ice Cream and we also tried the Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream, and the texture we really nice, smooth, creamy and it truly tasted like what it’s suppose to taste like! I would be purchasing PC brand ice cream over summer as I finish up what is left in my freezer. I also found at Superstore PC Waffle bowls, which is something I’m really interested in getting along with my ice cream!
As we were walking up and down 4th Street, we stopped at a few kiosks to grab a bit to eat! We had a plate from Rajdoot Restaurant, which gave us a plate of naan, butter chicken, and tandoori chicken. It was excellent! I hope to actually sit down at their restaurant one day and enjoy! What an excellent way for us to sample the food!
Other places that had samples to buy would be Cruffs – House of Cream puffs, Spolumbo’s Fine Foods and Deli, Fiasco Gelato, Koob (The kabob Factory), Foo King Hot Relish, and much much more!
Besides the few stops I made, there were tons of eating options, and if you’re into eating, I’m afraid you’re reading the wrong blog, but there were lots of things to see at Lilac Festival, and it definitely can take up an entire afternoon! So, lather up on the sunscreen, and let the fun begin again next year!
I love food, and I love watching Food Network. I was so excited to see on Top Chef Canada that we had chefs that represent Calgary on the show! Connie DeSousa who is the Co-Executive Chef and Co-Owner of CHARCUT Roast House in Calgary, who was 1 of 16 chefs that go to compete in this season of Top Chef, then watching her success on the show really gave me a lot of interest to try CHARCUT.
I went on my birthday, and it’s definitely a place you need to make reservations before you go. We went on a Tuesday evening, and the place was full! Our waiter advised us that they do a showing of the Top Chef on Mondays and the place is packed then, as it sparked so much local interest. I can totally see why! I am definitely planning to make reservations to join in the fun on a Monday evening.
We started my birthday dinner with Kielbasa “Spragg Farm’s pork sausage flavoured with mustard and black pepper” which was an item prepared by Connie on Top Chef. It is also a house-made sausage, and CHARCUT which was something I really wanted to try.
My main dish was Spring Creek Butcher Steak – Chimichurri, arugula, fried matchstick potatoes.
We also had Spragg Farms’ Roasted Pork Belly – Mascarpone polenta, stinging nettle pistou, fava beans.
For dessert, which was the highlight of the meal, I had an preserved pink lady apple in a jar – cheesecake layered with graham crackers and preserves.
We didn’t stop there, we also ordered the chocolate and peanut trifle – peanut butter mousse layered valrhona chocolate cake and chantilly cream.
I’ve seen Chaichi’s Sandwich Bar a few times now, before I actually got a chance to go in. I always see it when I’m at Tim Hortons, but by then — I’ve already got some delicious food in my hand. However, I finally made it over to Chachi’s for a birthday lunch, and it was okay. It’s actually nothing special… and for the amount you pay, I may as well go over to the grocery store and order a deli sandwich.
The sandwich itself wasn’t bad, but I must say it’s nothing special. I ordered a Chicken & Havarti sandwich, and that only had one size option, long – which was fine for me. It was jammed packed with chicken breast, havarti cheese, basil pesto, Dijon, red onions, lettuce and tomatoes on Italian bread.
We also had the New York Style Smoked Meat Sandwich, and that was alright as well. It was much softer, and basically consisted only of smoked meat, and mustard also on Italian bread.
