Pho Thanh Nga – Calgary, Alberta

We eat a lot of Vietnamese food and somehow we stumbled into Pho Thanh Nga which was perfect. The place was busy but there was still a lot of parking available.

I was starving so we ordered an appetizer and got their Pork Spring Rolls which was pretty tasty! Simple but traditional! The skin was really thin and crispy and it was jammed pack with flavours and pork!

One thing I really like is egg pie, and one of my coworkers Mav made me his version homemade. I’ve never had anything as tasty or wonderful but there isn’t harm trying to find a location that can even come close. All the places he recommended for me isn’t like his homemade, but just finding a place that makes it is amazing. So, I had to order their Grilled pork, egg pie on rice and I was a very happy girl even though it didn’t come close to Mav’s. I can’t even request him to make me more as I fill his day with all sorts of random stuff already.

We also ordered their Satay Beef Noodle Soup as it’s perfect for a chilly day. The soup base was flavourful and there was so much meat and rice noodles! It was delicious!

I quite enjoyed this place. It’s not far from home, but maybe one day I’ll make it my go-to place even though I have a few other places I find myself returning to regularly!

Zip’s Drive In – Spokane Valley, Washington

It’s not a strange thing for us to pull over and eat something amazing, and this time we stopped at Zip’s, which is a local drive-in chain offering delicious and massive burgers!

We weren’t here for a long time, but I opted for a pretty big and AMAZING burger, with my favourite, a Strawberry Milkshake that was rich and thick and creamy – just the way I know them to be. My burger was Belly Buster Burger, with bacon, ham, beef patty and some veg. It was amazing and very filling!!

Overall, it was a very retro space, and the place felt greasy. I felt greasy after the food, but I ate it all and pretty much passed out when we got to the hotel to call it a night!

Hime Sushi – Vancouver, British Columbia

When on holidays, I eat even more than I do at home. We found ourselves walking out of a coffee shop and straight into Hime Sushi for no good reason but to eat. Once we got seated, we had to pay for more parking. It really wasn’t a big deal as parking was relatively cheap compared to home!

We sat down and I knew I wasn’t hungry but wanted to try their Okonomiyaki which was a street food pancake Japanese style with vegetables and seafood! It was huge and fresh!!

From there, being the indecisive person I am, we just ordered their Deluxe Sushi Platter and it was amazing! I wasn’t feeling great that day, in fact most of that trip I was actually very sick – but the food was still so tasty!

Everything here was sweet and fresh! It was magnificent and even while being ill the food and service was extremely memorable. I enjoyed myself tremendously here and I wouldn’t mind going back given the oppertunity!

Our Town Cafe – Vancouver, British Columbia

We all know I love road trips and with Covid-19 I’m unable to even leave the province, so I figured I’ll take a little trip by going this route! For my coffee series, I found the perfect “O” and I knew it was at Our Town Cafe in Vancouver, British Columbia. It’s a beautiful lake front cafe that’s stylish and comfortable. There’s street parking along a park and it’s a perfect location for a cafe!

I ordered a quick treat with a latte and it was magnificent! The space was clean and contemporary where it was very organized. I was very satisfied with the space, coffee and baked good! I had their chocolate loaf which was very moist and delicious!

Overall experience here was magnificent. If I wore a sweater, I’m sure I would’ve enjoyed sitting on the patio, but it was breezy. So, I just watched the crowd come in and out from inside.

Pie Junkie – Calgary, Alberta

I like pies, and I had a family in town for a month and I decided to try to get pies to make… but that never happened!! So, on Pie Day I wanted pie and found myself on a drive to the other end of the city to get some pie at Pie Junkie to bring back home, heat up and eat!

When we got there, there was a lineup and it was great to see!! I love supporting local businesses and this is one I’m happy to support. I got myself a Aussie Beef Pie and I wasn’t sure what it was. It’s a great pie with a flaky buttery crust filled with ground beef and then there was some gravy/sauce that spilled out in the centre!! It was amazing and it kind of reminded me of sheppards pie filling.

We also got their Butter Chicken Pie and it was quite tasty. It wasn’t really a butter chicken taste, but it was a delicious chicken filling with a bit of heat! The crust was also flaky and buttery and it’s almost like the Jamaican pie crust!

Then just as we’re paying, I needed a sweet pie. Everyone knows I have a sweet tooth and I got their Coconut Cream Pie which was absolutely beautiful!! The cream was light and fluffy, and great coconut taste!

Overall the pies were stuffed to the brim and was packed full of flavours! To reheat was simple as it said heat up in a cold oven 250F until you see a puddle of butter in the bottom. It was perfectly heated up and these pies are the best I’ve ever had!
