Amato Gelato – Calgary, Alberta

Amato Gelato has always been a place I’ve always wanted to go visit for gelato, and I finally got to go! If only Amato Gelato wasn’t so far away, I can see myself there every weekend.

It was so much fun at Amato Gelato, just looking through the display to see the huge assortment of flavours, I did feel like a kid in a candy store – or ice cream store!

I settled for a coconut gelato, and we also had the toasted almond ice cream. The coconut ice cream was alright, I think it would have been a million time better if there were coconut pieces or if it was a toasted coconut flavour. It just seemed be missing something. The texture was really smooth and creamy, and it was really quite perfect!

The toasted almond flavour was really flavourful! We definitely enjoyed that gelato, and would probably get it again. Maybe even the almond avalanche! That looked really delicious.

We had one in a dish, and one in a hand dipped chocolate-dipped waffle cone, and the waffle cone was crisp and fresh. We watched the workers hand dip the cones, and that was an extra special touch!

A Ladybug Belgian Patisserie – Calgary, Alberta

We visited the market at Currie Barracks one afternoon, and couldn’t help but to stop by A Ladybug Belgian Pastsserie with the soft scent of freshly made crepes. We weren’t hungry or anything, but just couldn’t resist that sweet temptation. So, we sat down and ordered ourselves a strawberry waffle, as that’s one of my favorite things to eat on a nice hot morning.

The freshness of the fruits, and crispness of the outside of the waffle, to the soft chewy waffle inside was in perfect harmony. The whipped cream used to garnish was home made, and tasted great with the waffles as well. We always thought we would be back, but I guess the market at Currie Barracks have closed. I hope they’ll re-open in the new location, as I can’t wait to sink my teeth into some more waffles, and perhaps crepes too!

Fat Kee Noodle House

I’ve been going to Fat Kee for many years now, and I love their fresh noodles that they make for their distributors — they use the same noodles for their customers! You’ll always get their freshest noodles, and many other products.

This place is a little place, and the food is really reasonable, with great quality!! Sure, their specialty noodle dishes maybe a little bit smaller than going somewhere else, but you must remember, they aren’t as expensive! The best thing about smaller portions, you can try more variety!

It is extremely busy here during weekdays in the afternoon, and many evenings as people order takeout. It appears that they have a lot of customers who are return customers, as the waitress seem to really know their guests and their preferences!!

Fat Kee offers quite traditional food as well as North American Chinese food, both really tasty!! Be sure to pick up some of their noodles from T&T! 🙂

We really enjoy their deep fried tofu, it’s actually deep fried tofu, and deep fried again to a crisp. It’s served with some salt on the side for you to dip it in, but it’s actually flavourful enough as is.

We also often order the Spicy Soy Sauce Chicken and rice, and it’s also really delicious. They steam the chicken, and top it with chilies & ginger. The soy sauce that the chicken sits in is really good with rice!! If you just want to eat a bowl of rice with some sauce, this would be the sauce!!!

As always, I eat Shanghai Noodles everywhere I go, so it is no surprise I have it here as well. The noodles as mentioned are really fresh and soft, with the right amount of seasoning and pork. They don’t need to add much to the already perfect noodles!

Ricky’s All Day Grill – Calgary, Alberta

Ricky’s All Day Grill has the best turkey gravy in my opinion. It’s a small location, with really great food, so be sure you have lots of time before even thinking about going to Rickys.

I always order something with fries and turkey gravy on the side, and I really enjoy the Hawaiian burger from Rickys as it offers a sweet and savory taste from both the teriyaki sauce and the grilled slice of pineapple. It’s the perfect balance to a burger. This delicious burger does tend to make a big mess as well, so roll up your sleeves and enjoy this treat!

Douglas Peking Express

In search for a great take out place with Chinese Food for lazy cold winter days, I found myself trying Douglas Peking Express in Douglas Glen in Southeast Calgary. The food was better than the Chinese take out place in McKenzie Towne, so I would go the extra distance for Chinese food here.

We didn’t do take out this time, as we wanted to try out the Chinese experience. They were decent! The neat thing was, there was people who continually came in to either place take out orders or pick up their orders! It gave me great confidence that the food was good!

We ordered fried rice and Shanghai noodles, which are 2 of our favourites! And, needless to say, we did like the quality of food here. The lunch menu that we saw seemed very attractive as well – even though we haven’t had a chance to try it out yet.
