I was actually searching for a fun place to go to after I went to an eye exam and got some interesting news and it was about lunch time. I decided to go to the YYC Hot Chocolate Fest to see what I could find and I stumbled upon Monki Bistro and I made a reservation to their Beltline location. We did find street parking right across the street as it was an afternoon that was blowing snow!
I actually did order their feature hot chocolate that they called Cookies and Cream Cheesecake Hot Chocolate and the name is long, the drink was hot, the whipped cream was fresh, the drink was fantastic!! It was a decadent drink that wasn’t too sweet, and the toppings was the perfect amount!
From the eye doctor, I was told to eat more fish, Omega 3’s, and leafy greens. Yes if you know me personally, you know when I stopped listening!! So, I ordered their Salmon Bene with “fruits” that made the plate so beautiful!! The benedict was perfect with smoked salmon with capers ontop of a perfectly toasted muffin. There was a piece of tomato on it and it was as nice pop of freshness. The menu did say there was an option for pink prosecco hollandaise and I purposely didn’t feel like saying anything but it wasn’t offered when they took the order. Beyond that, this was a perfect smoked salmon eggs bene!!
Another of my favourites is Perogies and when I saw it on the menu I ordered it!! The Monki Perogies came on this hot skillet with their hashbrowns and it really was amazing pockets of pillow awesomeness! The sweet chipotle sauce really made it taste like one of my favourite BBQ chips so I enjoyed this dish thoroughly!
Overall I absolutely loved this brunch place! It was a random cold and late afternoon and the place was packed still. It’s cozy and charming, the staff was fantastic and the food was perfect!!

A perfect weekend for me is sometimes just having a slow morning, with coffee and a baked good. I’ve been seeking this out a lot lately and just to work on this blog actually! I found this great place on the Beltline called Sucre Patisserie & Cafe and there’s street parking which is great as we got pretty close.
I ordered a Vanilla Latte as it’s my fancier drink and a tad sweeter. It’s exactly what I wanted and the neat thing about this is you can see they use actual vanilla beans! It was lovely!
This was an interesting day as it was amid day thing to do and we were going to friends house for dinner. This became a snack/late lunch kind of deal but we also spent 2 hours here. I got the Chocolate Hazelnut Croissant and the pastry is amazing! Light and fluffy, with good substance to it. It’s one of my favourites in the city right now!
My hubby ordered some sort of Mocha. He can’t remember and it was only last week! I’m not that far behind on this post! Regardless, he loved whatever he ordered. Funny thing is, I don’t remember trying it either! I’m terrible for taking peoples food and drinks and just trying it so it must have been something I just had no interest in as my stuff was amazing!
His little snack was a Banana Chocolate Croissant and it was sticky and ridiculously good! (See, I had some of this, even though I didn’t touch it! I got it fed to me! hahaha) It was a nice croissant cut open with slices of bananas in it and then topped with chocolate drizzle.
Overall, I would absolutely come here again and set up my laptop for a good afternoon quiet and slow day! I got to window watch people passing by when I wanted a little break, and the staff was extremely helpful and friendly. I kept an eye on how busy it got as I like to give up my table when it gets too busy. They had a good thing going on here and I didn’t feel rushed. Everything was really good here.

We’ve been meaing to come to Red’s Diner for a few years now and this one morning, we actually ventured our way to this diner on 4th Street SW.
I guess I wanted a sugar high this particular morning as I started with a nice mug of Hot Chocolate which was pretty delicious.
Then, I ordered myself their Hazelnut Crepe and yes, it is what it sounds like… nutella crepe with bananas! It as amazing with the caramelized bananas inside and just enough nutella to make your teeth tingle! It was amazing and really filling – probably from the sweetness. This was simple, amazing, and super delicious!
Being the steak and eggs kind of guy my husband is, he ordered their Steak & Eggs which was a huge portion, with a really nice piece of steak cooked really well and seasoned to perfection! It smelled and tasted amazing!
Overall experience here was very enjoyable. Perfect way to set the stage for a great weekend! Service was super quick and friendly, and the prices was reasonable. It was breakfast, but had enough food to fill us up past lunch so it was well worth it!
