Fairmont Empress – Victoria, British Columbia

We decided to go to Victoria as I’ve never been there, so we decided to drive there which was quite a lengthy drive with a ferry ride, but it was definitely an awesome experience! We figured this is the only trip we will be taking here for the foreseeable future, so we decided to splurge and stay at The Fairmont Empress which has a beautiful view, and the location is quite central to unique places!

We stayed in their most economic room as it was a costly time to visit them, so the Fairmont Room was what we booked, but with a king bed. The room was beautiful and very comfortable as it offered a spacious area with a couch and a desk area.

Just across the way there’s another couch with their coffee and take maker! It’s the perfect place to stay for a wind-down if you don’t want to leave your room.

The bed and the room was really large and comfortable. The pillows was a delight to sleep on, and everything was clean and cozy, perfect for a rainy afternoon like the one we had during our stay!

The bathroom was pretty standard, it wasn’t too big, but it wasn’t small either. It offers everything you need, so it was jsut perfect!

Overall, our stay was magnificent. I think about returning all the time but it’s very expensive all around, so it’ll be a special trip every few years! The overall stay was magnificent and we had the best server during our afternoon tea experience. The only complaint would be valet – every time we needed our keys or wanted to drop it off, we would be waiting for 20 minutes for a door person to assist us.

Super 8 – Salmon Arm, British Columbia

During one of our driving trips to British Columbia, we wanted a quick sleep, so we stopped at Super 8 at Salmon Arm which is just off of the highway in a convenient location. Although the hotel is just off the highway and a railway going behind it, it wasn’t as noisy as expected.

The room we stayed at was their 2 Double Bed Room and it wasn’t the most spacious room, but it did it’s job. It offered 2 double beds, a mini fridge, a desk, coffee maker and hair dryer! This hotel even comes with breakfast that starts at 6am!

The amount of space was a little crammed as you can see in the pictures – the fridge is right under the closet area, and that’s where the luggage rack was. Good thing we’re light packers and don’t need a lot of space!

The bathroom was really standard, but it was clean! There’s really no complaints with this hotel as it met our exceptions and in a way exceed it!

Overall, we had a great stay, although we didn’t stay for the breakfast to start, we were on the road already. It was a short and sweet stay!

Hilltop Diner – Langley, British Columbia

On our drive to Vancouver, we’ve heard amazing stories and reviews about Hilltop Diner and also watched Food Networks You Gotta Eat Here come by this location – so we HAD to make a stop and visit this lovely establishment!

Once we got a seat after a long wait as they’re very popular (and well worth the wait), we got our menus. After we ordered, I think the waitresses realized I was taking pictures of everything and shared their scrapbook with us. This amazing scrapbook is filled with memorabilia of films/movies and shows that used this restaurant! If you’re interested, I’d recommend asking to see it! Shortly after we started flipping through this scrapbook, our order of the soup of the day came, which was Turkey Dumpling soup. This soup was really amazing and I’ve actually have had nothing like it before!

I ordered their Classic Burger which I figured if it’s “classic”, it’s probably pretty awesome and popular! This amazing burger had a 5oz patty with fried onions and the classic toppings of lettuce, tomatoes and pickles. The thing that really stood out was the sauce they used on the burger, it was very tasty!

My husband ordered their Mushroom Mozza Burger which was another super delectable burger! This burger had a 5oz patty with mushrooms under melted mozza cheese, and also topped with their classic toppings of lettuce, tomatoes and pickles. Instead of fries, we got onion rings with this burger, and I love onion rings, and they did a good batter and fry here!

You would think after eating burgers the size of our heads, we would be so stuffed and call it a day. However, this diner is known for their homemade pies, so there was no way I was going to leave without getting a slice. We ordered a rustic pie, which not many people know about, it’s the Flapper Pie and secretly it’s a pie I hope becomes as popular as Apple Pies! This pie had the perfect graham crust with a perfectly creamy custard filling – just the way it’s suppose to be (not with jello custard)!

Overall, this place was amazing! If it wasn’t so far out of the way, I wish I could visit here more often and try other selections on their menu!

A&W – Salmon Arm, British Columbia

During one of our drives out to Vancouver, we had breakfast in Salmon Arm, and the only thing opened at our crazy hour was A&W which isn’t normally a fast food breakfast place we’d pick, but it was the only thing opened.

We both ordered the same delicious breakfast combo, their Sausage N’Egger Combo on their regular Sesame seed bun. The food was fresh and it tasted fantastic. The hashbrown was presented in the cutest fryer basket and it was crispy without being too greasy! They really mastered this combo!

We’re so glad we went in, the service was awesome, the food was fantastic, and the location and hours was ideal for us! We’ll be sure to think about A&W more often for breakfast!

Fairmont Hotel Vancouver – British Columbia

During our road trip to Vancouver, we decided to stay at the Castle in the City, Fairmont Hotel Vancouver and what a glorious stay it was! Although the hotel was undergoing some major renovations, it was still quite nice. The lobby wasn’t done yet, and one of the main reasons for our trip was the visit their Fairmont Store – which they are renovating out.

We stayed in their King Bed Deluxe Room and it was quite nice. It’s great as it still has the old feel to it, yet it’s not run down! The room was simple and that’s really all we need!

The neat thing about this bathroom was the flush handle – it’s like the bar that you use to flush! It’s not typically what you see inside a hotel, but it was fine! It was a weird side note I had in my mind when I saw it.

The stay was still really nice, with a view of Vancouver Art Gallery. I think the only disappointment was the Fairmont Store not being here anymore and was told the closest one was in Victoria – at the Fairmont Empress. We did find finding where to go for parking the car tricky as it was our first time in this area. We ended up just parking the car on the street and running inside to ask Concierge where to go. It was quite an ordeal as there was some protest outside the hotel as well. But, we managed and all was well!
