Travelodge Salmon Arm – British Columbia

We decided on a limb that we were going to take a road trip to Vancouver for the weekend, where we would stop over half way so we would have more time in Vancouver. Our halfway point this trip was around Salmon Arm where we booked into Travelodge which is conveniently located right off the highway.

We stayed in their 2 Queen Bed Room that is a motel like hotel that has tons of amenities! There’s free breakfast in the check-in area and a giant pool as well. The rooms are equipped with coffee maker, mini fridge and a desk!

The beds are decent and the rooms are quite clean – although my sheets smelled like smoke in a non-smoking room. I’m sure it’s just in the air though.

The bathroom is divided out such that the toilet and tub are in the bathroom and the sink with lots of counter space is located just outside of the bathroom area. This does make it convenient for more than one person to get ready in the morning!

The overall room was decent in size and the stay was good. Location and rates were excellent – so there’s really not much to complain about!

The Burner Restaurant – Malakwa, British Columbia

While driving through BC, we couldn’t help but noticing a giant burner. When we realized it was a restaurant, we knew we were eating at The Burner. Soon, this restaurant will be featured on Food Networks You Gotta Eat Here and hopefully will be sharing their wonderful food to everyone.

As I was in the area for the Salmon Run, I thought I should be eating Salmon… so I ordered their Blackened Pan Seared Sockeye Salmon with a side of smoked corn. I saw it on the menu for one of their condiments but really wanted some – so I asked for them. The salmon was definitely blackened as it was a little burnt, but not enough for it to be bitter or gross – so it was nice. The corn was amazing, you can definitely taste the smoked flavour in it and the entire meal was just awesome!

My husband ordered the Black Angus New York Steak Dinner which was a giant piece of steak, cooked to his liking. He also had mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. The mashed potatoes was one of my favourites, and he devoured his entire plate in no time.

The overall experience was beyond what I was expecting. The service was good, the food came out quickly and everything was delicious! I actually cleaned the plate and proud of it!

The Regent Hotel – Revelstoke, British Columbia

We took a weekend trip to BC, just to see the Salmon Run which was really quite amazing! We ended up staying at Revelstoke’s The Regent Hotel which is kind of in their older area near the train lines.

Once we checked in, we pretty much called it a night as we were quite tired. This hotel caters to bus tours as there was at least 2 staying in the hotel when we were there. the hotel rooms are quite decent and quite newly renovated. The rooms do lack your amenities like a coffee maker or water boiler, but it was just fine.

We got a room with a King bed kind of tucked away in the corner where we over look the side street. It was quite a quiet stay, although trains do go by, it’s not too loud.

The bathroom was of a good size and so was the shower. It offered your basics so it was perfect for an overnight! Our stay included a complimentary hot breakfast buffet which was a nice way to start our day before we ventured on our way back home.

D Dutchmen Dairy – Sicamous, British Columbia

I really love dessert, and last time we were in the Sicamous area, we saw this Ice Cream place called D Dutchman Dairy and we tried to go there. We pulled right into their parking lot only to see them switch the sign over from “OPEN” to “CLOSED”. We said next time we’re in the area, we have to stop there. This was our opportunity!

Once inside, there was a wide array of flavours and I settled for one of my favourites, Coconut Ice Cream and it was nothing like I have had before. It was really creamy and light, yet tons of coconut flavour. It wasn’t rich, as it felt really delicate. It was pretty awesome and even the cone tasted pretty good.

My husband enjoyed one of his favourites, the Mocha Almond Fudge and he really enjoyed it. I tasted it and it was a nice mocha based ice cream with almond slivers swirled with dark fudge chocolate. It was really delicious. The ice cream base is amazing and we believe they get their dairy from the dairy cows from behind the shop and make do their own creamery.

Overal, this has been one of our favourite ice cream places we have ever been too! It’s definitely worth the trip out and I’m sure I will be back to try other flavours!

Fisherman Direct Seafood – Salmon Arm, BC

We were recently in BC to watch the Salmon Run around Salmon Arm, when we came across Fisherman Direct Seafood and decided to stop in as we saw some billboards for this place for fish and chips. We wanted to eat seafood so it seemed like the perfect match.

We started with their Calamari which was wonderful! It set the bar high for our expectations as it was lightly battered, tender and fresh. The calamari tasted great we barely touched their tartar sauce and we needed nothing.

I decided to go for their Halibut Burger and I got the seafood chowder as a side instead of more fried food. The halibut burger was so delicious, it was sweet, light, and perfectly fried. The burger didn’t have much besides lettuce and tartar sauce – and it was perfect. The seafood chowder was a bit salty but tons of flavour, tons of seafood and quite hearty.

My husband ordered a Once Piece Cod and Chips and you get 2 sides. He got yam fries and onion rings – mostly because those are my favourites. We really enjoyed the cod, again, it was quite light, portions were large, lightly battered – crispy outside and wonderful on the inside.

We really enjoyed our experience here. Everything seemed to be so fresh and made to order. We even bought some candied salmon on our way out and got a recipe card for their seafood chowder. I can’t wait to try it!
