Tres Carnales Taqueria – Edmonton, Alberta

We were thinking about a quick and simple dinner when we stumbled into Tres Carnales Taqueria which we’ve heard of by Food Network’s “You Gotta Eat Here”, and like always, John Catucci’s recommendations haven’t failed us yet! We love this place!

We started our meal with their Sopa de Tortilla which is a soup I enjoy making myself! It’s really fresh and awesome here and their chips are deep fried which makes them extra crispy and extra delicious! We enjoyed it thoroughly as they hit it with some lime juice, guacamole and sour cream!

We then ordered some food to share where we picked their Quesadilla Carne con Chile which was magnificent! Once you bite into the quesadilla, the delicious beef that was tender with the melty cheese – this was our favourite for the evening!

We also ordered an order of their Tacos de Pollo which was little tacos with chicken in it! It was really tasty and their tortillas were really tasty and something different!

Overall, we were really glad we decided we wanted to stop in here for our dinner! It’s lighter than what we could have had and it was so tasty! It was a bit on the costlier side, but the quality, freshness and passion really made up for it!

Saltlik – Calgary, Alberta

We were in downtown one evening looking for something when we decided we’ll have dinner there as well. We found ourselves walking straight into Saltlik Steakhouse where we have been here about 10 years ago and figured we would try it again.

We ordered some starters, what they called Almost Famous Dry Ribs which were ribs with a spicy honey glaze. The sauce was absolutely delicious and although it wasn’t “dry”, it was still excellent ribs.

Since we knew we walked into a steakhouse, it would be foolish of us to not order steak. I had their Prime Sirloin with their soup of the day which was Beef Barley soup. The steak was cooked to perfection, tender and juicy with awesome char marks and great smoke flavour.

My husband ordered their Ribeye Steak with Rosemary butter on top. It was a great cut of steak and also cooked really well. Absolutely tender and juicy and seasoned to perfection. The butter was almost unnecessary! He ordered his meal with their fully stuffed baked potato which had perfectly crisp bacon on top which was the highlight of the potato!

Overall, a fantastic experience, a wonderful evening with great food, great atmosphere and great company! It was almost the perfect night! The prices was very reasonable and the top notch quality made it a great re-visit! It’s nice to know they are doing things right and still doing so great after 10 years (our first visit)

Sutton Place Hotel – Edmonton, Alberta

During one of our stays in Edmonton, Alberta, we got to stay at The Sutton Place hotel in downtown Edmonton. The main entrance was a little confusing at first as it looked like it was the entrance to their restaurant – but it really was the front door.

We got checked into our room and we were on the top floor – which was pretty high on the 26th floor. The room itself was quite nice and the pool was a set of stairs right across the from elevators. Although I didn’t go and enjoy this pool, it was a quite a spectacular looking one!

The room was quite spacious and make it a comfortable stay. It offered your basic hotel amenities and that’s really all we ever ask for when we stay anywhere!

Our room had a large comfortable bed. It was really a good bed but there was some motor or something that made pumping noises throughout the night. I’m not sure if it’s from the elevator or from the pool above but it was loud and distracting.

The bathroom was pretty standard as well. Lots of counter top space and quite a large tub – even though we used the shower. The bathroom amenities were very nice as well.

Overall, the location of the hotel was really nice and the price was right. However, due to the noise level in the room – I got absolutely no sleep. I’m sure other rooms further down the hallway or on other levels won’t be so bad. Self parking costs just over $30/night as well, and it’s in an underground parkade. That elevator doesn’t even take you to the main lobby either, so it’s a little bit of a hike.

Courtyard Edmonton Downtown – Edmonton, AB

As odd as it sounds, I really enjoy going to Edmonton as a trip – not to live, but we were there this one time and stayed at Courtyard Edmonton Downtown which was at a beautiful location where you can see the river from our room. The only weird thing about this hotel was the one-way streets that makes it a little tricky to get to the hotel.

Our room was beautiful, with a large bathroom and shower/tub, it was really quite a memorable bathroom. It felt old, but it was nice! The picture below was taken from the area beside the bath tub/shower (so it is on the left).

The actual room was gorgeous as well, and very comfortable and spacious. We had 2 queen beds

Overall, the stay was spectacular and the view was unforgettable! We enjoyed our stay and look forward to our next overnight trip to Edmonton!

The Westin Edmonton Hotel – Edmonton, AB

I really enjoy over night stays during my weekend trips and this time I ended up at The Westin Edmonton which was at an ideal location in downtown. It was within walking distance to everything! The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating and the hotel was nicely renovated where the stay was really nice. We got a Deluxe Room with King Bed and the bed was extraordinary! We’re even considering ordering a bed for our home!

The actual room was huge and just a lot of space, with a mini bar area with a coffee machine, mini fridge and a tea kettle. Of course with complimentary water, coffee and tea. If you’re here for business, the desk is just massive – you could get a lot of work done here if you wanted! There was also a spa, gym and pool on site and underground parking.

The bathroom was a good size bathroom with really nice spa like bath amenities. It smelled good and the soap felt good on the skin, the shampoo/conditioner was really nice in the hair.

The stay was really luxurious and we enjoyed our room thoroughly. We had no complaints and although we wanted to try their on location dining, we didn’t do it – but maybe next time!
