Prince of Wales Hotel – Waterton, Alberta

A once in a lifetime opportunity came to me, so we took it. The Prince of Wales Hotel in Waterton Alberta books up fully quickly and they’re only opened seasonally! Although the price tag was a large one, it was a memorable stay – especially if you have a love for historic and rustic things.

We stayed on the 5th floor, queen bed room which was neat as the elevators only go up to the 4th floor. From there, you go to the wing you’re assigned to and go up. The bellman is very helpful if you need assistance as well. The room was tucked away and we even upgraded to a lakeside room. Our room was very basic as it really has just the basic. Thinking about it now, there was no TV in the room!

I also had the opportunity to poke my head to the room beside us (509) and I would say the rooms although had a different layout, it was similar in size!! I took a picture of their room too – just to show you! I liked our room more as it had more windows to enjoy the view.

The view I’m talking about is this breathtaking and there was balconies at each room (although they were fire escapes, they don’t mind you standing out there!)

The bathrooms were a little more rustic and sometimes a little creepy. The hotel was shut down during WWII for and was used for soldiers and officers who were wounded. It does have an industrial feel to it – but at the end of the day, you’re not in the bathroom that long!

Overall, it was a fantastic and memorable stay! We did all our dining options from the hotel and the service was excellent, the food was pretty good as well! It was a stay to remember for a lifetime!

Just because I can – here’s a room of the standard rooms with lakeview. It is complete with a little bathroom closest to the balcony door, with a queen bed and a seating area. There is a sink in the room – and I’m not sure if there was a sink in the bathroom!

Sutton Place Hotel – Edmonton, Alberta

During one of our stays in Edmonton, Alberta, we got to stay at The Sutton Place hotel in downtown Edmonton. The main entrance was a little confusing at first as it looked like it was the entrance to their restaurant – but it really was the front door.

We got checked into our room and we were on the top floor – which was pretty high on the 26th floor. The room itself was quite nice and the pool was a set of stairs right across the from elevators. Although I didn’t go and enjoy this pool, it was a quite a spectacular looking one!

The room was quite spacious and make it a comfortable stay. It offered your basic hotel amenities and that’s really all we ever ask for when we stay anywhere!

Our room had a large comfortable bed. It was really a good bed but there was some motor or something that made pumping noises throughout the night. I’m not sure if it’s from the elevator or from the pool above but it was loud and distracting.

The bathroom was pretty standard as well. Lots of counter top space and quite a large tub – even though we used the shower. The bathroom amenities were very nice as well.

Overall, the location of the hotel was really nice and the price was right. However, due to the noise level in the room – I got absolutely no sleep. I’m sure other rooms further down the hallway or on other levels won’t be so bad. Self parking costs just over $30/night as well, and it’s in an underground parkade. That elevator doesn’t even take you to the main lobby either, so it’s a little bit of a hike.

Radisson Hotel and Suites – Fort McMurray, Alberta

We made it to Fort McMurray for an Oil Sands tour and so we decided we’d stay the night at the Radisson Hotel & Suites after the tour. It was a fantastic package that we got with this offer with the Oil Sands tour and the Marine Museum with the night stay here!

This city is definitely mostly workers in the oil sands but it was pretty neat as the culture here is quite different from any other. The room that we got to stay in was very nice! It had a nice King sized bed and of course, it was a sleep number bed which is perfect for my husband and I. We like different firmness of bed so this was wonderful!

The actual room itself was very spacious and the feel of the hotel was really new and clean. It had a desk area as well as a seating area which I didn’t take a picture of but you can see it on the clip below. The bathroom was quite spacious and although the tub was standard, it almost felt like an oversized one.

Overall stay here was fantastic. The front desk staff was friendly, the restaurant was delicious and the staff there was also great.

Bighorn Meadows Resort – Radium, BC

I’ve been very fortunate and got to take a weekend trip with my family to Radium, BC which is just over 3 hours (driving) away from Calgary where we stayed at the Bighorn Meadow Resort just off of their Main Street.

Here we stayed in a 2 bedroom suite which offers 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a dining area, kitchen and living space. It’s like a condo, but it’s a resort. Once we opened the door, we were greeted with a giant entrance way with tons of storage.

Then, in the master bedroom, it offered a giant king bed and an en-suite bath. The room itself has a TV in the room and the bathroom offered a rain shower head standup shower which is super sized! All the bathroom amenities was by Bath & Body which was really nice for the skin and nose!

The second bedroom was smaller but it had 2 single beds and instead of an en-suite, there was a general main bath just across the hallway that offered a giant corner soaker tub. Both the bathrooms are extremely spacious and luxurious. In the suite itself, there’s washers and dryers – so you can do laundry if you’re doing an extended stay!

The main living area was the best, with an electric fireplace, built in speaker, and really comfortable seating area – we sat and enjoyed some movies during our stay!

The kitchen was very impressive, with a full function kitchen, with dishes, pots and pans and your basic utensils, we even got to make ourselves breakfast during our stay. There is a dining area which seats 6 people comfortably as well.

Overall, our stay was more than we could ask for. It was spectacular and much more than we could have imaged! The resort does say there are movies that you can borrow, but it didn’t actually specify there’s a fee to borrow them – so just be careful! But, we left with tons of great memories and we hope to be back soon!

Courtyard Edmonton Downtown – Edmonton, AB

As odd as it sounds, I really enjoy going to Edmonton as a trip – not to live, but we were there this one time and stayed at Courtyard Edmonton Downtown which was at a beautiful location where you can see the river from our room. The only weird thing about this hotel was the one-way streets that makes it a little tricky to get to the hotel.

Our room was beautiful, with a large bathroom and shower/tub, it was really quite a memorable bathroom. It felt old, but it was nice! The picture below was taken from the area beside the bath tub/shower (so it is on the left).

The actual room was gorgeous as well, and very comfortable and spacious. We had 2 queen beds

Overall, the stay was spectacular and the view was unforgettable! We enjoyed our stay and look forward to our next overnight trip to Edmonton!
