Billy’s Burger – Calgary, AB

We make it to the weirdest places sometimes and this time was Billy’s Burger which is located on Edmonton Trail, really near much besides commercial buildings.

We were here for breakfast and their breakfast food was pretty good! We had a group of us and I basically can’t remember who had what – but I know what I ordered was good! I had their Wor Wontons which came in a giant bowl of soup, and everything was really tasty!

Then, the guys either had Bacon and Eggs or Sausage and Eggs. I’m pretty sure it as my husband that had sausage and eggs as it’s usually “Meal A” in a lot of restaurants – and it’s what he likes.

Just because I can… here’s the bacon and eggs breakfast:

The last breakfast is definitely not your typical breakfast, but it was Fried Chicken! I should totally have gotten that as the chicken was beautifully fried and the fries were amazing!! Next time!

Overall, you can pretty much order anything under the sun from here and it’ll taste pretty good! The prices are great, the service is great, it’s just a neat little place!

Highlevel Diner – Edmonton, AB

I first heard of Highlevel Diner on TV as I watched “You Gotta Eat Here”, and they were recommending their famous Cinnamon buns. So, we knew when we stayed overnight in Edmonton, this was a breakfast place on the top of our list.

Nothing starts my day better than with some Hot Chocolate and so I ordered some here. It’s a nice treat to have hot chocolate in my diet as I love it, but often find it’s really sweet.

I ordered their Farmers Omelette which was an amazing omelette with bacon, onion, potato, and cheddar cheese. It kind of reminds me of the items I love in my perogies! These items tastes amazing wrapped in eggs!

Finally, the star of the show, the Cinnamon Bun where we ordered 1 to share. Thank goodness we did as they were the size of my head! It was soft, warm, fresh, gooey and not too sweet. It was the perfect cinnamon bun which needed nothing else with it. It was amazing!

Overall, the cinnamon buns are to die for! There’s a few other places on my “to go list” that include cinnamon buns now as it’s one of my favourite food items. I especially love cinnamon buns around Christmas time as it’s warming, inside and out! So, if you go to this diner, be sure to order yourself a cinnamon bun from here!

Papa George’s Restaurant and Wine Bar – Jasper, AB

It’s actually funny how we made it here – I was actually both hungry and needed to use a bathroom, so we basically went to which ever restaurant that was opened, and I didn’t need to wait for a table. So, we walked inside of Papa Georges Restaurant and was greeted and seated immediately.

We really didn’t know what we wanted as it was the weird in-between hour of lunch and dinner, so we first started with their daily soup Cream of Mushroom Soup and it was creamy and delicious, although not very pretty.

As we searched the menu, I figured I wanted more a lunch item, so I picked their Blackened Salmon Sandwich, a filet of wild sockeye salmon rubbed with blackened spices, topped with vegetables and tarter sauce on ciabattia bun.

My husband choose to have more a dinner item and he opted for their Bison Meat Loaf which was an all bison meat loaf with some vegetables on the side. We were worried it would be dry, but it was still moist and the gravy on top was really good.

Our overall dining experience here was memorable. We really enjoy Jasper and the food choices they offer. The prices was at par with restaurants around.

Steakout & Drifters Lounge – Edmonton, AB

This particular time we went to Edmonton was because there was a Diana exhibit on at the West Edmonton Mall which I wanted to go see – so I did. After the exhibit, we went to a place where my husbands co-workers recommended us to go for smoked meat sandwiches, so we went. It was to The Steak Out and it was a large place with tons of customers even during off peak hours.

With that recommendation in mind, we at smoked meat! I ordered their Smoked Meat Sandwiches which had tons of smoked meat on bread – and like the traditional Montreal style with mustard and a pickle! It was tender, and juicy and awesome!

With that mentioned, my husband ordered the same thing but in jumbo form and it had a lot more smoked meat with some sides. It was just as good and the fries were really tasty – although not the highlight at all. He had the Jumbo Smoked Meat Sandwich! Right now, that is definitely the place to go if we’re craving an awesome smoked meat sandwich!

This is a wonderful recommendation and it really made the trip to Edmonton worth it! The exhibit I went to was great and this was just as great — if not better!

The Donut Mill – Red Deer, AB

There’s no better little birthday cake than having a donut! We stopped at The Donut Mill on our way to Edmonton for a delicious donut in lieu of a birthday cake so when we walked inside this place that looks like a windmill, we were floored with the selection of delicious looking donuts.

Their display of donuts was quite impressive and there was never a quiet time in line – there’s always someone walking through their doors for either sweets or savoury foods. The selection is huge and they have quite a large dining area as well.

After I ordered my donut, I then saw some eclairs – which was what I really wanted when I was there. They were in a separate display case, but I’m sure that I will be going back to enjoy a giant eclair someday soon!

I ended up picking the Chocolate Venetian which was a donut filled with vanilla pudding topped with chocolate glaze. It was really quite delightful! The donut was really fresh, light, soft and fluffy!

The other donut we enjoyed was their monthly special called Donut of the Month which happens to be a maple donut with whipped cream inside! It was also really nice! The light airiness of the whipped cream inside the donut really was a treat as we’re use to creams, puddings or custards!

Overall, I loved this place and I already know I will be back – to try to eclair and some of their hot and savoury goodies! It’s a great stop whether you’re around this area for a quick bite or an actual meal.
