Crazyweed Kitchen – Canmore, Alberta

I’ve heard many great thing about Crazyweed Kitchen so we recently went there to try them out! We made a reservation which turned out to be a good idea as they were very busy! We got seated right away and the staff was extremely friendly!

We started with their Soup de jour which was a curried butternut squash soup which was a little bowl of tons of flavour! The soup was excellent and we weren’t sure why they bothered giving us some bread with the soup as it was paper thin, we couldn’t even get butter on it and if it touched the soup, it just disintegrated. So, we just enjoyed the soup as is.

I ordered the Albacore Tuna Sandwich which was an openface sandwich made on crispy ciabatta with garlic aioli, arugula topped with green olive tapenade served with duck fat potato skins. The sandwich itself was absolutely delicious while the duck fat potato skins sounds awesome, it was soggy and too greasy. I would’ve devoured the entire plate if it was crispy!

My husband ordered the Chicken Pot Pie which was really hearty, more like a chicken stew which was absolutely delicious and warming to the soul! The pie was made with mushrooms, carrots, potatoes, peas, truffle, tarragon, thyme, topped with buttery crust served with greens!

Overall, we loved Crazyweed as much as everyone else! The price was about the same for any dining option in Canmore. It was an absolutely amazing dining experience and I am sure we will be returning one day soon again!

Peking Peking Riverbend – Calgary, Alberta

I wanted to eat some “Western Chinese Food” this one evening and we ventured to Peking Peking Riverbend that’s just off of 18th Street and Glenmore Trail. It’s a little location and it looks like they do a buffet as well.

We started by ordering a Wor Wonton as it’s something I’ve made recently myself and I wanted to eat it again – without making it! This wor wonton had noodles in it which is weird as it’s not a wor wonton noodle soup that we ordered (so we thought), but it’s okay. The wontons were flavourful, but I’m not sure what flavours they were. The soup lacked a little bit of salt, but it’s an easy fix by adding some soy sauce!

We then ordered a plate of Fried Noodles with Beef & Vegetables which came in a large plate. It tasted really good, but it was quite greasy. The beef was really tender and almost a bit too tender, but it was good. This plate was so large we even got to bring some home for the following day – but the grease settles which made the bottom not so good.

Overall, the food was alright. It wasn’t what I had expected or wanted, but it must be because they are from a different area as their cooking techniques are quite different from what I’m use to. The prices was average and so was the food.

Leo Burrito Tacos – Radium Hot Springs, BC

We didn’t know what to eat during out trip out to Radium, BC and we decided to eat at Leo Burrito Tacos just off of the highway. It’s really easy to find, but the parking lot is a little small.

I ate their Pork Taco which was sold individually and it’s pretty small. This taco basically has pulled pork, some salsa and pickled onion. The evening we went, they were out of pineapple salsa which was the one it’s suppose to come with – but I got mango salsa instead. It was a good taco and very fresh. The meat was tender and juicy.

As my taco was a little small, I ordered a side of Leo Gems which was basically tatertots. It looks like it comes in a small bowl, but there’s actually lots of Leo Gems hiding in the bowl! They were fried really nicely as it was still crispy when we got to the end.

My husband ordered the 12″ King Kong which was a giant burrito which had all my husbands favourites for a burrito: slow cooked beef, cheese and sour cream!

This trip, I went with my sister and her husband. My brother in law enjoyed a salad while my sister had a Suzy Q Burrito which was a good sized burrito stuffed with roasted bell peppers, mushrooms and guacamole!

Overall, this little restaurant was really quite good! It was relatively cheap, the portions was quite reasonable for burritos and Leo gems and the best thing was the food was extremely fresh and delicious! Another great thing about here is their opened late!

Saigon Maxim Vietnamese Cuisine – Calgary, AB

I was actually boycotting the Vietnamese restaurant that we’ve been going to for awhile… we stumbled into Saigon Maxim as an alternative, and we’re glad we did! The food was amazing! With tons of parking, good food, and other amenities – it’s an ideal place to eat!

We started with some Chicken Wings as I’m normally in search for wings on Wednesday. The wings were fried really well here, even though there wasn’t a lot but it was good quality! The wings were a little small as well, but the skin was really crispy!

I ordered rice vermicelli with lemon grass beef, chicken & prawn. It was a large bowl of vermicelli with tons of meat. I’m always nervous about ordering shrimp or prawns or seafood in general at a restaurant I’m not familiar with. The prawns were decent here and the chicken and beef was really good.

Rare beef Noodle Soup and it was exceptional! It really was as flavourful and delicious as it looks! The beef was tender and actually juicy, and there was a lot of them too!

Overall, we loved our experience here. It was close to home and it tastes really good. We’ve been back numerous times already since we’ve experienced it! I recommend this location for Vietnamese food!

Club House Family Restaurant & Lounge – Calgary, AB

We met up with a friend for Korean food one evening and we ended up at Club House Family Restaurant which was attached to their lounge. The space was big and there was plenty of parking. The interior of the restaurant was spacious and clean. The workers are actually Korean, so I applaud them for making the food they’re best at!

Right after we ordered, we got our kimchi selection which was unlimited. The servers do come by and ask if you want more, so that’s very nice!

We started with some soup and so we ordered Kal Bi Tang made with a beef broth with beef rib broth and noodles. The soup was so flavourful and the beef rib was tender.

Then, we ordered some Korean BBQ, and choose to have their Bul Go Ki which was marinated beef with gogung special sauce and they bbq’ed it! It was absolutely delicious, tons of flavour and it was tender and perfect with rice.

Lastly, we ordered a dish that I loved the most in the evening. I ordered the Jap Chae which was clear noodle mixed with beef and vegetables. I love noodles and I especially love clear noodles or glass noodles. The taste was just amazing and I could order a order any time and eat it up.

Overall, we really enjoyed our experience here. It wasn’t very busy that night but it was quite late when we got there. The food was tasted absolutely amazing. The prices were a little high, and service was minimal, but the food tasted amazing, and that’s all I’m worried about!
