The Crepe Cafe – Calgary, Alberta

We’ve been looking for the mini crispy eggs in Calgary for a long time. These are quite hard to find, and to my delight, they are available here at the Crepe Cafe.

We went to try The Crepe Cafe when it was quite new, and it was very disorganized, and chaotic. They didn’t plan a good system prior to opening. I’ve recently been back – just to pass by, and it looks like they do have some sort of system, but I didn’t try it… I just walked by. Hopefully it’s better with the Saturday afternoon rush.

Anyway, we went here only for the mini crispy eggs, and when we got it, we were really excited. We sat down on those funny chairs – which clearly was meant to “eat and get out”. The crispy mini eggs were kind of soggy, and it just wasn’t the best batter. However, I can’t complain, as I haven’t found any other ones in town. I’d like to compare it with my experiences in cities with a large Chinese population, but that won’t be fair. All I have to say is.. you gotta try at least one! I do think I will go back in the future in hopes of less chaos, and improved recipe.

Cows – Banff, Alberta

ICE CREAM! Who doesn’t stop at Cow’s for ice cream on a nice hot day?? Usually if it’s nice outside, the lineup for Cow’s ice cream would be out the door.

Today, it was no different. It’s always worth the wait as their ice cream is really flavourful, and smooth. I can say it’s almost perfect! I ordered their Wowie Cowie in a dish and it was amazing. They described it as Vanilla ice cream, English toffee marble, hocolate flakes, and Moo Crunch (crunch candy bar). It looks as good as it tastes!

They have a really creative menu – which can be quite challenging if you’ve got allergies… you’d have no idea what ingredients are in the ice cream! My hubby ordered their Moo Crunch, which was chocolate ice cream with peanut butter cups, and moo crunch! It was a nice blend of smooth and crunch!

We had a friend with us and his ice cream was much more normal! He had a double scoop and one coop was Chocolate which is self explanatory and the other was PEI Blueberries and both of these flavours tasted like what it’s supposed to!

Sushi House – Banff, AB

We went out to Banff for an afternoon, and it was so much fun! We started the day trip with eating lunch at the Sushi House, as it’s always fun to pick which plate of sushi you want off the moving train that goes around a bar counter.

We have been here before for dinner, and I personally think the options are greater in the evening (and a little fresher as well). We sampled a lot of dishes, and we left with a really full tummy.

One of my favorite sushi would be the Hokkigai, or the surf clam. It wasn’t on the train, but I was able to ask the sushi chef to make me some, and he did without hesitation.

There were also some deep fried options, and those were good as well. As for the gyoza’s, maybe they were sitting on the train a little too long… or it just wasn’t good. Regardless, it was still pretty good, and the price was reasonable also.

The plates that you take off the train are colour coded, and that denotes the price of the plate of your sushi – which is a very convenient system they have!

Milestone’s at Market Mall – Calgary, Alberta

We arrive to Milestone at Market Mall to celebrate my mom’s birthday. It was nice, as the mall offers underground parking, which makes it really nice to go and enjoy a meal when it’s not so nice outside.

The environment was very upscale, and the food is decent. Between the 4 of us, we ordered very different dishes and had cajan shrimp diane, which was a generous portion of shrimp over rice.

We ordered their Seasonal feature which was fettuccine, and that was pretty delicious, with hand cut fettuccine, it was pretty fresh and tasty.

We ordered their lamb sirloin, which is a good portion of meat with some potatoes and season vegetables.

pacific coho. The Pacific Coho was really over cooked when it first arrived, and we did send it back to have a better cooked piece of fish. It was nice of the restaurant to be accommodating.

Even though we were celebrating a birthday, we were too full to enjoy a dessert.

Tubby Dog – Calgary, Alberta

We were craving something different a while ago in the past, and I remember Tubby Dog as it was yesterday. The hot dogs were massive, and delicious! These hot doges may seem expensive when you’re ordering them, but when they arrive, it truly a meal of it’s own!

We ordered 2 types of dogs, one was the massive Sherm’s Ultimate Gripper: dog is bacon wrapped then deep fried. topped with ham, home made chili, cheese, mustard, bacon, hot peppers, onions and a fried egg. The other was just a normal Tubby Dog with homemade chili, cheese, mustard, onions, and bacon.
