Chateau Lacombe Hotel – Edmonton, Alberta

We went for a little road trip and needed to stay over in the Edmonton area, so we booked a room in downtown at Chateau Lacombe Hotel which is just at the river. The hotel was beautiful and the rooms were very spacious.

We stayed in their regular guestrooms with a king bed, and it was really nice. There was a lot of space in the rooms even though the shape of the room was a little skewed.

The bathrooms were your typical hotel bathrooms, so it was nice it was standard and clean.

The room offered nice work space and a big TV so it’s great for any type of travelers that would need a hotel in this area!

This was a great hotel and the dining from either their Lacombe Cafe for breakfast, or the revolving restaurant up on 24th floor offered really delicoius food! We wouldn’t have a problem booking a stay at this hotel again! Click below to see the complete hotel room walk through!

Pete’s At The Beach – Sylvan Lake, AB

I’ve been to Sylvan Lake once before, and had a great dinner. This time, we came by for breakfast – and we decided to try Pete’s at the Beach which is located right on Lakeshore Drive, across from the beach. There’s parking here and it’s at an ideal location, great for all types of travelers.

The interior was decorated with a large collection of old favourites and antiques to really neat artifacts. It was fun inside and you know each piece of item has some history for the owners.

We ordered our breakfasts, and we had their Denver Sandwich – opened and it was really nicely done! It was a delicious omelette with ham, peppers, onion on top of toast with some hash browns. It sounds simple, but simple is best in this case!

We also ordered their Eggs and Toast with sausages on the side. It turned out to be a pretty big and decent breakfast! The toast and bread used in both meals was the best! It was light and fluffy, even after it being toasted, and it just tasted really great!

This was a great place to stop at! It was great to see the locals come in and they talk to the workers in the restaurant like family! It was a great environment and the food was excellent! I would recommend coming here to grab some food! We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly.

White Spot Macleod Trail – Calgary, AB

Thanksgiving this year was kind of interesting. This year, I didn’t make any feasts which I quite enjoy – as I haven’t not made something in a long time. We decided we still wanted turkey dinner, so we went to White Spot on Macleod Trail which is located just in the Willow Park area.

We started out with some appetizers, their Salt and Pepper Wings which was not a good deal at all! It costed more than a buck a wing. Sure, they’re good, but they’re not worth the price tag they put on it.

As mentioned, we wanted turkey for dinner, so we got their Roast Turkey Dinner and on this Thanksgiving, they made it into a combo, I guess… it came with pumpkin soup. It was actually quite tasty and I really enjoyed the soup. Tons of flavour and the texture was nice too.

The actual turkey dinner was surprisingly good! It was a large plate with both white and dark meat, mashed potatoes with gravy and some stuffing. I’m not a huge fan of stuffing on the best of days, so I still didn’t eat these ones. I tasted it and that was about it. This plate did get cleared between the 2 of us, and quite quickly too!

The other thing we ordered was their Baby Back Ribs and these ribs were fall of the bone tender and juicy. We got it with onion rings, and the waitress really didn’t tell us that it was an upgrade/substitute fee. Oh well, it wasn’t the end of the world

Overall, the food was excellent and the service was really good. The only part I had to complain about was the bill as mentioned with the onion rings, it was added, which I’m sure we could have just read. But, I guess for Thanksgiving, they had a special combo that had dessert added as well. We weren’t offered it and when we asked the waitress, she took it off the bill and the total on the bill because more expensive. She didn’t explain to us anything – so we figured she didn’t know what she was doing. Instead of causing a scene, we just paid the more expensive bill and left. Kind of left a sour note in my mouth, but the food was soo good. Not sure if I’ll be back.

Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Whitecourt Southeast – Whitecourt Alberta

I did a blind booking when I had the opportunity to stay up North in Whitecourt, Alberta and we just randomly bid a hotel as we had no idea what’s what. We were lucky enough to have won Holiday Inn Express & Suites for this stay, and I’m sure glad we did! The hotel and the room was very nice and the staff was extremely friendly! The location was really good as it’s not far from amenities, yet far enough from the highway and train that it was quiet.

Once we got to our room, we were blown away with the amount of space we had! It was huge inside with all the amenities you’d want – from mini fridge to a microwave! We’re never picky with what we get and this room, we had 2 queen sized beds and it was nice! Everything was clean and no funky smell – which is always a good thing.

The bathroom decent in size with enough counter space! It was pretty standard, and it was also clean with fresh towels and stuff. It’s not spacious, but yet, how much room do you need in a bathroom…

They used Bath & Body Works bathroom amenities in this hotel, which is very nice. It smell really good and you know it’s a good brand. I appreciate it! The last Holiday Inn Express I stayed at used the same line, but a different scent – so it’s a fun way to experience it!

Overall, the stay was extremely enjoyable and comfortable. They had free wifi internet, free parking and complimentary breakfast! To see the room walk-through, check out the clip below!

Soban – Whitecourt, Alberta

Whitecourt was where we decided to stopover during our little road trip. We got checked in and went out to find some food. We found Soban Restaurant as I had noodle soup in mind — and they would have udon or something! This restaurant was in one of the back streets but not tucked away on that street that offered Korean and Japanese cuisine.

We were the only tables there and we saw a few people do take out meals which was pretty neat as it was quite late and people still order out! We started with Edamame which was a big plate, and pretty good!

We both ordered udon, we got their Shrimp Udon which was actually tempura shrimp with udon and it was pretty good! It came in large bowls and they both started with a salad.

The other bowl of udon we got was their Beef Udon and yes, the picture doesn’t do its justice, but it was actually really good! The beef, they used their Korean Bulgogi beef for it and it worked perfectly!

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our evening meal! It hit the spot and it was just good!
