Momo Sushi – Calgary, AB

I’m not actually too sure how I ended up here at Momo Sushi, but I’m kind of glad we did! It’s a little place located in a strip mall, right across from Chinook Centre, but a little more North on the East side of Macleod Trail.

We weren’t too sure what we wanted, so we basically just started ordering a whack of things and they’re all quite tasty! We started with the Assorted Sashimi which had was a nice selection of sashimi, and quite large pieces as well! We

Then, we ordered Spicy Tuna Roll and Smoked Salmon Roll which they came out on the same plate! I’m sure you can tell which is which, but the spicy tuna is the one on the left. Sure, these rolls are quite typical, but they tasted great!

Lastly, we ordered a Rainbow Roll which we were a little confused about… as the sign they had said there was more to the rainbow roll than what came… but then again – we could be reading it wrong as it was an odd sheet with pictures on what’s in the rolls. Regardless it was a nice selection on the Rainbow Roll and we enjoyed it thourougly!

Overall, I think I wouldn’t mind going back! It sure sounds like they have a great lunch special and their food was good at a good price as well!

Village Ice Cream – Calgary, AB

I’ve always loved ice cream and when I heard there’ a great place in town, and it’s opened till late, I was there!! This location can be a tad hard to find and parking is kind of limited right now are there’s road closures do the the flood, but there’s tons of streets for you to park and enjoy Village Ice Cream. There’s no tables or chairs but there’s tons of room outside for you to enjoy your treat outside – or you can purchase it an take it home!

This day, I enjoyed their Toasted Coconut Ice Cream and I love that it tastes like what it says it’s suppose to! It’s not a subtle taste either, it’s awesome! There’s nothing I like more than ice cream with a waffle cone, and I must say – they have one of the best waffle cones ever! I can just buy a pack of their cones and eat it as is as well!

My husband loves minty ice cream, so he knew he wanted their Guide’s Mint right away with the waffle cone! he loved it and said it tasted like mint!

We left feeling so satisfied and we’re so glad this is a place in our knowledge bank for ice cream — opened till late! I’m sure we’ll be back, especially during hot summer nights!

Subs ‘N’ Bubbles Food Truck – Calgary, AB

I was just roaming around Sunfest when I headed down a side street towards all the food trucks. This food truck caught my attention as I love Vietnamese Submarines – so I got an order from Subs ‘N’ Bubbles which smelled the best too (in my opinion!) This food truck was well decorated so I’m sure if I spot it again, I’ll be eating from it!

I ordered a nice bubble tea as it was a hot day with a gentle breeze! I tried their Mango Coconut Bubble tea with Lychee Jelly which at first tasted a bit like bubblegum and mango! I didn’t get much coconut taste, but I did enjoy this drink. I’m not a huge fan of pearls, so the option to have lychee jelly was awesome!

For the sub, I guess I ordered one of their most popular… their Korean Pork Bulgogi Subs which is a neat fusion! I love the flavours of the meat, it was jammed packed with deliciousness! There was enough sauce to make the bun moist but not drench the entire thing to make it soggy or even fall apart! It was just perfect! We added the cheese and it is the way I will have it again!

I thoroughly enjoyed eating from this food truck! It smelled great, it tasted great, the service was quite quick, but the prices are a tad high for street food. It held the price tag of the same food, but for a dine-in place. The nice thing was, it was full size and like I’ve mentioned numerous times — it tasted great! I think I will have to try their Butter Chicken sub next as that would be a great fusion as well!

Basil Ultimate Pho and Fine Vietnamese Cuisine – Calgary

We found ourselves seeking out for more Vietnamese food, and this time we ended up in the Northeast at a place called Basil Ultimate Pho. It’s just off 32nd Avenue and it’s not hard to find! It’s a large place with signage!

We were greeted really quickly and by we kind of knew what we wanted to try. We started with their Beef Spring Rolls which was a deep fried spring roll with beef in it. It was a neat change to their typical pork, and you knew it was beef!

I ordered theier Ultimate Sub which was a mixture of sate beef and chicken on a toasted baguette, with the typical Vietnamese sub toppings. The sub was really good and had a nice heat level to it.

Of course we’d order some pho, we’re at a pho place! We ordered a Pho Tai which is always our go to one! They called it Rare Steak Pho here, and it’s basically the same thing!

Overall, the experience here was nice. The location was large, spacious and clean. The service was great and the prices seem a little high for a what it is. It was an average visit for the pho, but I really enjoyed the Vietnamese sub!

Homemade Blueberry Pancakes

Well, this sounds a little strange but I’ve never tried to make my own pancakes before, let alone Blueberry Pancakes. I just realized it’s such a simple recipe as my co-workers told me if I want it more runny and thin, add more water. If I want it thicker and fluffier, add more flour. So, I made the fluffy version!

Ingredients: (makes 4 pancakes)
1 cup of flour
1 1/2 tbsp sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1 large egg
1 cup milk
blueberries
oil

This recipe is so simple, I actually just mixed all the dry ingredients in a bowl and then mixed the wet ingredients in… all in the same bow. I mixed until it was smooth, and let it sit to rest for a bit.

From there, I heated up my frying pan with a thin layer of oil. I made sure it gets nice and hot. Once the bubbles start forming and come to the top, you know you’re ready to flip!

Then, I just made it toasty in colour, served hot, topped with some butter and maple syrup! It’s delicious for you and your family to enjoy!
