The Crepe Cafe – Calgary, Alberta

We’ve been looking for the mini crispy eggs in Calgary for a long time. These are quite hard to find, and to my delight, they are available here at the Crepe Cafe.

We went to try The Crepe Cafe when it was quite new, and it was very disorganized, and chaotic. They didn’t plan a good system prior to opening. I’ve recently been back – just to pass by, and it looks like they do have some sort of system, but I didn’t try it… I just walked by. Hopefully it’s better with the Saturday afternoon rush.

Anyway, we went here only for the mini crispy eggs, and when we got it, we were really excited. We sat down on those funny chairs – which clearly was meant to “eat and get out”. The crispy mini eggs were kind of soggy, and it just wasn’t the best batter. However, I can’t complain, as I haven’t found any other ones in town. I’d like to compare it with my experiences in cities with a large Chinese population, but that won’t be fair. All I have to say is.. you gotta try at least one! I do think I will go back in the future in hopes of less chaos, and improved recipe.

The Dessert House – Calgary, Alberta

The Dessert House is one of my favorite places to go in Calgary. There’s quite a few things on the menu that I really enjoy!

One of my favorite things are the deep fried cuttlefish balls. I know, I can make it at home myself, but it’s pretty neat to have such appetizers with a nice bubble tea.

I have a few favorite drinks at the Dessert House. At the end of the year, my favorite drink would be the fresh persimmon drink. It’s really good! It actually just tastes like persimmons blended up!! I love persimmons, and I just eat it as is. I leave the blending to the Dessert House. Another favorite drink of mine would be either the pineapple or lychee green tea (cold) with no jellies or pearls.

I’ve never been a fan of the large tapioca balls or jellies in any of my drinks, but I do appreciate a good bubble tea!

The Dessert House offers an extensive selection of snacks on their menu, from steamed rice crepes to instant noodles! We use to go here for a small dinner, or a late night snack and order lots of delicious treats.

Bubblemania Cafe – Calgary, Alberta

Bubblemania is a place where I have been going to for many years now. They offer decent wings for a decent price. A new thing that is very handy, Bubblemania Cafe now accepts Visa & Mastercard! Before, they only took cash. Wing nights are now Mon to Thurs 2-7pm 28ยข Wings!

My favorite drink is either the pineapple or lychee green tea – COLD, with nothing in it. I’m actually not a fan of the “bubble” or the tapioca, as I tend to choke on it. Their drinks are quite good, but I must say — I think most of them are made from powder also! I’m a much greater fan of fresh fruit smoothies, but I risk the fruit not being in season.

We love ordering snacks from here, as they have amazing wings, they also have a ton of snacks and almost meal like food. We really haent’ tried anything that we didn’t like, we even enjoyed their Calamari!

Tang Toasted Subs & Grill – Calgary, Alberta

This morning, I woke up really wanting a good Vietnamese submarine. I didn’t want to go all the way to my favorite place in Chinatown, so I decided to give Tang Toasted Subs & Grill a try.

It wasn’t as I hoped for… as my expectations were really high — however, the sub was flavorful with it’s sauce from the chicken. I had the Satay Chicken, and my husband had the Mega Sub (Sate Chicken and Beef). I think the actual sub bun wasn’t as fresh or something. Usually when you toast bread, it’s got a distinctive taste and smell, which these subs seems to be lacking. The carrots weren’t actually pickled, or it was just really lightly done… or the carrot sticks were too large. You couldn’t taste the “pickled” part of it, which usually adds to the taste of a Vietnamese Sub.

We did see a lot of their customers eating the rice bowls, which really was just vermicelli bowls, and they looked like they were enjoying themselves! I guess if I was in that area, I would go in to give it a try too! ๐Ÿ™‚

Regardless, it’s a great place for a quick cure! And, a place I will return to try other selections which I didn’t get to this time.

We were going to get drinks, as both of us love bubble tea — however, they do not use fresh fruits, as you can see the powders they use. Neither of us are fans of powder bubble tea, so we opted out this time. They called these drinks smoothies at Tang.
