Tres Carnales Taqueria – Edmonton, Alberta

We were thinking about a quick and simple dinner when we stumbled into Tres Carnales Taqueria which we’ve heard of by Food Network’s “You Gotta Eat Here”, and like always, John Catucci’s recommendations haven’t failed us yet! We love this place!

We started our meal with their Sopa de Tortilla which is a soup I enjoy making myself! It’s really fresh and awesome here and their chips are deep fried which makes them extra crispy and extra delicious! We enjoyed it thoroughly as they hit it with some lime juice, guacamole and sour cream!

We then ordered some food to share where we picked their Quesadilla Carne con Chile which was magnificent! Once you bite into the quesadilla, the delicious beef that was tender with the melty cheese – this was our favourite for the evening!

We also ordered an order of their Tacos de Pollo which was little tacos with chicken in it! It was really tasty and their tortillas were really tasty and something different!

Overall, we were really glad we decided we wanted to stop in here for our dinner! It’s lighter than what we could have had and it was so tasty! It was a bit on the costlier side, but the quality, freshness and passion really made up for it!

Evelyn’s Memory Lane Cafe – High River, Alberta

We’ve been meaning to drive out to High River, AB to eat at Evelyn’s Memory Lane Cafe for quite some time now – basically after I first heard of them on Foot Network Canada’s “You Gotta Eat Here”. So, we had an afternoon where we didn’t know where we wanted to eat – and here we were!

We sat down by the diner bar and was greeted immediately. The entire team of staff was very attentive, friendly and quick! We started with a bowl of Beef & Barley Soup which was loaded with barley and had tons of soft and tender pieces of beef. I don’t normally love thick soups full of “stuff”, but this one I really enjoyed!

We also wanted to try their Strawberry Milkshakes as I love milkshakes from small towns. I claim they’re different and much more delicious! I was right – it was rich and creamy with the nice consistency and enough strawberry flavours. I believe I read somewhere stating they make their own ice cream, but I’m not sure…

Of course, if there’s perogies on the menu, chances are I will order it. I had an order of their Perogies which was absolutely amazing. Both the skin and filling was perfect and then with the onions and bacon – you couldn’t go wrong anywhere! It was definitely one of the best!

I ordered off their daily special and it actually came with a Cabbage Roll as well. I wasn’t sure about it at first, but once you cut into it – the world of aweseomeness came through. The texture of the filling was nice and it wasn’t dry at all. It had meat and rice in it and it was firm, while the cabbage was sweet and tender. It was nice!

From there, we ordered their Beef Stew also off their daily special. It came in a pretty good size bowl with almost a beef soup looking stew. It was still very hearty and delicious and tons of beef flavour. The vegetables were cooked perfectly as they were tender but not mush! They have the best bread as well!

Just in case we thought we didn’t eat enough, we decided to try a slice of their Pumpkin Pie and it was special! It was darker than pumpkin pie I’m use to seeing, but it was a nice texture. The crust was excellent and we devoured this dessert!

Overall, this was such a fabulous place I look forward to returning. It was a lot of fun, the food was top notch, the service was excellent and the prices were amazing! So, no complaints from anywhere! Can’t wait to return to see the train go around the restaurant again!

The Burner Restaurant – Malakwa, British Columbia

While driving through BC, we couldn’t help but noticing a giant burner. When we realized it was a restaurant, we knew we were eating at The Burner. Soon, this restaurant will be featured on Food Networks You Gotta Eat Here and hopefully will be sharing their wonderful food to everyone.

As I was in the area for the Salmon Run, I thought I should be eating Salmon… so I ordered their Blackened Pan Seared Sockeye Salmon with a side of smoked corn. I saw it on the menu for one of their condiments but really wanted some – so I asked for them. The salmon was definitely blackened as it was a little burnt, but not enough for it to be bitter or gross – so it was nice. The corn was amazing, you can definitely taste the smoked flavour in it and the entire meal was just awesome!

My husband ordered the Black Angus New York Steak Dinner which was a giant piece of steak, cooked to his liking. He also had mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. The mashed potatoes was one of my favourites, and he devoured his entire plate in no time.

The overall experience was beyond what I was expecting. The service was good, the food came out quickly and everything was delicious! I actually cleaned the plate and proud of it!

Bernie & the Boys Bistro – Drumheller, Alberta

We actually didn’t know what to do one weekend and we were in the North end of Calgary when we suddenly remembered John Catucci on You Gotta Eat Here featured a place in Drumheller called Bernie & the Boys Bistro, so we decided to drive out there just for lunch! We got there and it’s on the side of downtown Drumheller where we’ve never ventured off to, so we’re glad this gave us an excuse to go to this side!

Once we got in, I knew immediately I wanted a Strawberry Milkshake, so I ordered one and my husband ordered an Almond Milkshake! Their milkshakes are awesome and made the good old school way! Thick and creamy and loaded with flavour! It brings me back to the past with such milkshakes!

We ordered some wings to share and we decided to try their Smokin’ Wings and it was smokin’ hot! For some reason my husband thought the hot wings are the “screaming or liquid magma or even their blair wing project”. I honestly think it’s hotter than their “hot” wings! It wasn’t just hot tasting either which made these wings awesome. They were spicy and extremely flavourful! They were so good – we ate it all up, even though our mouths couldn’t handle it!

I ordered their Hawaiian Burger which was one of the best burgers I’ve ever had! It was juicy and delightful! Tons of toppings but didn’t take away from the burger taste or experience. It was like a Hawaiian Pizza in a burger, with ham, pineapple and cheese with some pizza sauce! It was a great experience!

My husband ordered the NY Steak Sandwich which was very tender piece of steak, cooked to perfection and seasoned well. There’s nothing we can find to say negatively about this – so it was a great experience!

We love this place and like John Catucci says, “You Gotta Eat Here!”!! Even if you just stop in for a milkshake or just wings or something, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed!

Pfanntastic Pannenkoek Haus – Calgary, Alberta

I really love trying places that people can’t stop talking about, and this is one of them! This place is called Pfanntastic Pannenkoek Haus which specializes in Dutch pancakes, which is more like a crepe as it’s thin. The location is pretty easy to find, but because this place is so awesome, there’s always a line up! So, either go early or be prepared to wait! This is also a Food Network’s “You Gotta Eat Here” recommendation as well!

We sat down and I ordered a tea, as it was pretty chilly outside and we did have to wait in line. We weren’t expecting to be as busy as it was, but it’s great and worth the wait! When you order coffee, you get a biscuit as well, so that’s pretty fun!

For the actual pancake, I ordered the one with Ham and Pineapple as I love Hawaiian Pizza, I figured I’ll have my pancake inspired by that pizza. They called it Ham, Ananas en Kaas, a Classic Pannenkoeken! It was absolutely delicious with the thin pancake that was delicate, the flavours on top wasn’t over powering. It was a great balance of sweet and savoury!

The other pancake we ordered was a full savoury one, which was Spek, Gerookte worst en Champignons Classic Savoury Pannenkoeken, which was a pancake with bacon, smoked sausage and mushroom! Again, this was delicious and better than pizza or pancakes from a regular place!

Overall, this was absolutely amazing! I think about returning here all the time, but I talk myself out of it. We’re into trying new things, but once I’m out of ideas, I’m sure this will be a place I will be lining up for again!
