Strathmore Station Restaurant & Pub – Stratmore, Alberta

We still love going out to enjoy some pub food and snacks once in awhile to relax on any given afternoon. We heard great things about Stratmore Station in Stratmore and decided to give it a shot.

The decoration inside was really neat – just like out of a scene in history of a train station. Tons of old pictures lines the walls and both their dining room and the pub was huge and bright!

We didn’t order much, just had an order of their Tex Mex Platter which was huge! The 2 of us didn’t even finish it as the platter was complete with their classic nachos with cheese, onions, tomatoes and olives – seasoned with Mexican spices. Then, on top of that had some Baha Quesa Spikes and Chicken wings. The Baha Spikes was basically fried burritos stuffed with goodness!

Overall, it was a fun time here. They had lots of TV’s, friendly staff and delicious food. We had an amazing time and can see us coming back – maybe for regular sized snacks or an actual meal though! The portions are very generous!

Lake Louise Station Restaurant – Lake Louise, Alberta

It’s Thanksgiving 2014, and this year instead of making a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, we ventured to Lake Louise on our way home from BC and stopped at Lake Louise Station Restaurant which is a hidden gem, tucked away and seasonal! We were quite lucky to get a table as we didn’t even make any reservations!

Inside was really rustic, like an old wood cabin train station with a wood burning fireplace in their main dining room. We were seated in an inside room, which was pretty much how it would look like if there was a conductor there. We did see a train go by and that was the highlight to the ambiance experience! One we got seated, I knew I wanted to warm up with a spicy Virgin Caesar and it was delicious!

Once we ordered our meals, a plate of bread and bugger came out. The bread was really fresh, with a subtle sweetness to it. It tasted great with butter and as dull/boring as it looks, it was excellent!

With our 3 course dinner, we had a choice between soup and salad. We both opted for soup as it was cold outside. The soup of the day was their Cream of Asparagus and it was very delightful! It wasn’t so creamy that it’s thick, but it had a nice texture to it with great taste of asparagus. It was cooked nicely as well, as the colour didn’t resemble overcooked asparagus!

For the entree, we both decided to have their Turkey dinner which was huge as it came with slices of turkey meat with gravy, seasonal vegetables, stuffing, and some potatoes. With it was some cranberry sauce and coleslaw. It was delicious and I ate everything up!

Our dessert was where we picked different desserts! I had their Strawberry puffed pastry which was really nice strawberries with whipped cream inside a puff pastry triangle, topped with cinnamon/nutmeg. It was a really nice dessert, although not light, it tasted light!

The other dessert was their Pumpkin Pie which was little individual sized pumpkin pies. The filling was really good, and the crust could be better – but it was still an awesome pumpkin pie. I personally think it would have been nice if they heated up the pumpkin pie a little, but I know they were busy!

Overall, a fabulous dining experience in a piece of history! The atmosphere – you couldn’t beat it, and the service was really helpful, friendly and quick. The food was tasty and was perfect for our Thanksgiving dinner!

Restaurant at the Lougheed House – Calgary, Alberta

We got some of our wedding pictures done at Lougheed House and we thought it would be fun to travel back and go through the Lougheed House as tourist, instead of a photo shoot. When we got in, we were surprised to see they have opened a restaurant here, so we decided to have a little brunch at their restaurant that was located near the back side.

Inside the dining room, it basically only fits a few tables, but it’s still very impressive as we’re inside a sandstone mansion that was built so long ago – it’s really a neat experience.

I actually knew what I wanted this time as the menu isn’t too large, it narrows my selection down. I opted to have their Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict which wasn’t bad, although pretty standard.

My husband who is always a tad more adventurous than I am ordered their Bison Meatball Hash Eggs Benedict as he loves hashbrowns, especially the shredded potato hash. This has was more mini potato pieces but was still nicely cooked. The bison meatballs were a little dry, but very flavourful. It was a neat combination and the hollandaise sauce was really well made.

Our overall experience was great. We were celebrating a special milestone in our lives and had decent food, and then we got to take a tour of this amazing historic house.

Tooloulou’s Restaurant – Banff, AB

Banff is one of my most favourite places to go to! I especially love this place for the different types of delicious food and stumbling into Tooloulou’s Restaurant was no exception. This place has Louisiana style food which was a nice treat from other cuisines around town. Located right on Caribou Street, just off Banff Avenue is this little gem.

We sat down and ordered some Alligator Bites which was a plate of alligator peices fried to a nice crisp with some dipping sauce. These were really good and quite amazing, we didn’t even need the sauce.

We also shared a Seafood Gumbo which was seafood stew with shrimp, clams, scallops, sausage and vegetables served over Cajun dirty rice. It was a delicious stew and it even came with some cornbread on the side.

Then, we shared their Shrimp Quesadilla which wasn’t anything too unusal, but it was a really good quesadilla as it’s not the normal protein suspect. I do love shrimp and I love quesadilla’s.. so, you put it together – I’m in love!

As everything tasted so delicious, we figured we’ll stuff ourselves to the max and order some dessert. We tried their Southern Pecan Pie and unfortunately this was the one thing we could have done without. It wasn’t very fresh and the pecans were soft and chewy as though it has been in the fridge too long. We actually didn’t finish off the dessert which was too bad.

Overall, we loved this place! We would be back for meals, and probably just wouldn’t end it with a dessert from here. There were other options, but the waiter did recommend this pie to us. We definitely enjoyed the alligator bites and gumbo though!

Fiddle River Restaurant‎ – Jasper, AB

We made it to Jasper and had no idea where to eat. As we walked around it seemed like pizza and ice cream were the 2 options, so we randomly went into Fiddle River Restaurant as they had an upstairs patio – where we sat.

As mentioned, we sat on the patio, which was on the 2nd floor. It was beautiful as it looked over to the train station. It was neat as my husband likes trains!

We started off with our drinks and a bread basket came. It was really nice and relaxing – then with some fresh bread and butter, we were doing great!

We ordered an appetizer on this fine day, we tried their Earl Grey Smoked Candied Salmon cured Atlantic salmon with hickory potato cake. The candied salmon was wonderful as it was slightly sweet with a nice smoke to it.

I ordered the Fiddler’s Fish Pot which was a delicious bowl of mixed seafood with salmon, halibut, mahi mahi, prawns, mussels and clams, simmered in a tomato, saffron & fennel coconut broth. It was absolutely divine and the best fish pot I have had to date.

My husband ordered their Bison Lasagna which lasagna has always been something he adores! He loved this one as well! This one was no exception made with bison bolognese topped with a herbed ratatouille, it was delicious!

Overall, we loved this place. It’s actually bringing back smiles as I do this blog and discussing it with my husband. We’re probably going to be going back some day soon!
