Thai Wok’s N’go Restaurant – Glendon, Alberta

We went to visit Andrew Alberta for the first annual Babas and Borshch and we knew that there’s the largest perogy statue not too far away in Glendon, Alberta. We got to the giant perogy and across the street was a little cafe. It must have just changed hands or something as the outside says “Pyrogy Park, but everything inside says Thai Wok’s N’Go Restaurant! It’s kind of got an Asian and Ukranian fusion with traditional dishes from each.

Because we were here for perogies, we had to order them! We started off with their Chinese Perogies which is kind of like the Chinese Egg Rolls with cabbage inside, then deep fried to perfection. Just like the Chinese egg rolls, there’s plum sauce to dip.

Then, we thought it would be fun to order their Mini Pyrogy dish which had mini perogies pan fried with onions and topped with bacon bits! It was as good as it sounds!

Then, we ordered their Pyrogy Dinner which offered their standard sized perogies with a cabbage roll, a Ukrainian Sauasge and coleslaw.

The food here was surprisingly delicious and I love perogies – and their perogies didn’t fail me at all! I love this remote location and hope to be back one day – perhaps next year if I’m up for the 2nd Annual Babas and Borshch!

Vegreville Train Station – Vegreville, Alberta

Vegreville was a place I knew I had to visit when I was in the Edmonton, Alberta area. I found myself in the area for the first annual Babas and Borscht up in Andrew, Alberta. This city has the largest Ukrainian Egg (Pysanka). While driving through the town, there was a posting for a restaurant at the train station – so we knew this is where we wanted our dinner.

We were in luck as it was a Saturday evening, and it was the only day this restaurant is opened, and they were packed! It looks like they have both menu service and a buffet, but they were so busy, we opted to just enjoy the buffet. We weren’t sure how it worked at first, but the locals here are extremely friendly and they kind of explained to “grab the food”! The buffet was great, it offered traditional Ukrainian offerings such as perogies, sausages, and cornmeal!

I picked a pretty bowl for my dinner, as it was pretty! The food was really enjoyable and we went back for seconds and thirds! I did end the dinner with their pistachio cheesecake, which was extremely delicious!

As we were paying, we noticed they had borscht and it was something I wanted through the day – it was my Ukrainian borscht day, and they had some here. We ordered some to-go as we were stuffed and enjoyed it in our hotel room in Edmonton instead! It was ridiculously good – it was the perfect way to end the night!!

Coaldale Bakery – Coaldale, Alberta

For one how knows me well, I love bakeries and Coaldale Bakery was recommended to us by my husbands co-worker. I knew we had to go as they offer famous Apple Fritters and it’s something I didn’t use to love, until now – except for the fact, I can’t find any as good! This bakery is attached to a market and it’s just minutes outside of Lethbridge! It’s definitely worth the trip if you’re in the area!

We ordered a box of 6 fritters and kind of an assorted, we asked for 2-Apple Bacon Fritters, 2-Apple Raisin Fritters, and 2-Apple Blueberry Fritters. I loved all 3 types and I often think about going back to purchase some more – but the trip is a little far!

We had so much fritters and we didn’t know that the Lethbridge Air Show VIP section fed us so well. We had left overs and I must admit, these were just as delicious the following day! We were lucky as I was worried about it getting hard from the exposed air, or even soggy… who knows what can happen with day-olds. But, they were wonderful!

Needless to say, this bakery was awesome! I will be back and to actually sit down to enjoy the cafe! And, I’ll bring more home as well, since they were still good even when they’re not fresh!

Pops Pub South – Lethbridge, Alberta

We were in Lethbridge for the first time, just to watch the Air Show and we loved it. After the show, we weren’t too hungry but knew we had to eat dinner as it was a long journey home. We had a recommendation from an acquaintance to try Pops Pub and we just happened to be closest to the South location, so we made it for pizza! This location is conveniently located within some residential area with the hospital about a block away.

Once we got inside, we knew we had to try a pizza as it’s known for their pizzas. We tried their All Meat Pizza which wasn’t too greasy at all! The toppings for this pizza included ham, pepperoni, sausage and Mozzarella cheese! A perfect combo for any meat-lover!

It also happened to be their Perogy Night and with me loving perogies, I ordered a bunch! We actually ordered 2 different types, but they mixed it together – which was fine and an adventure trying to figure out which one we got! The 2 types of perogies offered are potato cheddar and bacon & Romano, and we topped our selection with sour cream and bacon bits. We also had a little bit of lemon pepper on the side which actually added tons of flavour to the perogies – provided you didn’t put tons of it on. Just a little sprinkle is plenty!

Overall, we loved this place! The food and service was great at a great price too! I’m sure we will be back next time we’re in the area – for whatever reason!

Fairmont Palliser Calgary Alberta

I have always loved the Fairmont Hotels and when I saw a special for the Fairmont Palliser, I knew it wasn’t an offer I was about to turn down or miss! This hotel is historic and beautiful, and it’s located right next to the Calgary Tower. The only thing I found was a little odd was it’s check in situation where you just parallel park on the side of the road, or in some cases the lane into traffic.

Once we were inside, we were greeted with friendly faces, courteous staff and a beautiful lobby! The lobby was absolutely gorgeous and I was excited I got to be there! Check in staff was quick and efficient and we found where we needed to go really quickly!

We took the elevators up to the room and the room was beautiful! It’s updated with art from antique postcards of the hotel in the bathroom and everything was tastefully decorated. The room was spacious and offers your typical in-room amenities such as a mini bar, water kettle and even a kurig coffee maker!

The bathroom was really quite beautiful as well, with tons of space and counter top! There’s even a hair dryer in the bathroom and beautiful Fairmont robes for you to use during your stay!

The bathroom amenities was a scent developed by themselves which was nice and unique to them! I love that they spend the time and effort thinking about details like that!

As we left the room, I had to go visit the hot tub and pool area! I love relaxing and winding down a day for a quick soak in hot tubs! This hotel has a beautiful pool that’s located inside the spa, but the pool is for guests – you just need your room key to get in!

The experience here was unforgettable! I loved every minute of my stay and I sure hope to be back again some day! To see the room walk-through that we stayed in, check the clip below!
