Spud Mobeel Food Truck – Calgary

We were hunting for a food truck that I haven’t tried before and saw that Spud Mobeel was going to be at Casel Marche, which we didn’t think too much about… until we got there. I must say, I hate this location for a food truck – which I then realize lots of food trucks go there occasionally… oh well, I’ll stick to the Deerfoot Meadows locations. Anyway, enough with me rambling on about location – which ultimately doesn’t matter, as they are mobile! We weren’t hungry at all when we came by this truck, but still wanted to experience it so, I just ordered a small snack anyway.

I ended up ordering their Spiral Dog with Cheese which was excellent! It was a hot dog wrapped in a potato cut into a nice spiral that was placed around the dog… and then deep fried to a perfect crisp! And, since I got the one with cheese, a perfect cheese sauce was drizzled on top making a great snack!

As for the prices, I think it was a little high for what it was, but it isn’t completely out of this world. The spiral dog was $6, and then to add the cheese, it was an extra $1! It wasn’t the best, but it isn’t something you get all the time, so it justifies for itself! Nice thing about this food truck, all their menu items are gluten free – if it’s a concern for you!

Aglio E Olio Food Truck – Calgary

As you can all tell now, I really like food trucks, and when they’re at Deerfoot Meadows on Saturdays, I’m most likely going to visit them. This one particular Saturday, Aglio E Olio was there, and it was my first time seeing them! They offer pasta from a truck, and the portion sizes are huge for only $10! It is a little more costly than other food trucks, but the amount of pasta you get, it’s incredible!

From this truck, we didn’t know how big the portions were until after we received our order. We actually got a pasta each, which was fine – we just had a smaller dinner! 🙂 I love Gnocchi when they’re done right, as they transform potatoes into pillows of light and softness! So, I ordered their Gnocchi Bolognese which was of course gnocchi with a spicy pomodoro meat sauce!! It was a wonderful and filling lunch, and I was satisfied to no end! On top of the great gnocchi, it had a huge piece of garlic toast, and I have been in love with garlic toast since I was really young!

The other plate of pasta that we ordered was their Penne Arrabiata, which was a plate of penne – which we love!! It is topped with with sausage and pomodoro sauce which in a way is similiar to the gnocchi, but the use of sausages instead of the ground meat changes everything!

This was a great truck to visit! I really enjoyed the Gnocchi with the Meat sauce – so if you’re looking for some starch, and some delicious topping, nothing really beats their Gnocchi Bolognese! I hope it’s there next time I run into this food truck!

Blam!Wich Food Truck – Calgary

We’ve been to Blam!Wich more than once now and at first, the prices seemed a little high for a sandwich off a truck. But, if you order something extraordinary, it really makes up for it and makes your day!

This time, I ordered the Flyin’ Hawaiian which was a delicious combination of ham, pineapple cheese and chipotle mayo. Ham and pineapple has always been one of my favourite combinations, and in this sandwich, it was no exception! The cheese really wasn’t as melted as I would hope for, and therefore was a tad greasy feeling, but it was still really good. THe acidity and sweetness from the pineapples was a perfect compliment to the chipotle mayo – with your “ham and cheese” sandwich!

The other sandwich we ordered was the Bacon Storm, and to be honest, anything called the Bacon storm is something we’re attracted to! This sandwich is loaded with bacon and ham with some cheese and tomatoes! Not a whole lot, but it certainly didn’t take away from the great taste of pork!

Now, I think I’m really loving the Blam!Wich food truck as it offers delectable sandwiches that seems like you can’t get anywhere else! If you’re looking for a quick and delicious sandwich, I would like to recommend you follow the Blam!Wich food truck!

Shogun Teppanyaki Food Truck – Calgary

A wonderful food truck would be Shogun Teppanyaki which I tried during Lilac Festival! I was really happy to see so many food trucks gathering for a street event. It was a chilly day and I wanted something savoury and hot – so I choose to eat at Shogun this time!

I ordered the Beef Teriyaki with udon noodles, and it was really good. It was similar to some fast food Japanese concessions, but I found that the sauce wasn’t as thick and salty – which makes Shogun a better option! The food was prepared perfectly, and it was a great order! I added some hot sauce to my noodles, and it definitely kicked it up a notch and I loved it even more!

Overall, this is a great food truck, especially on cold days! I can see me lining up for this in the winter. The only downfall, I can’t really see into the truck to see the “teppanyaki”… when I think about teppanyaki, I think about a show on a flat bed grill (even though I know it’s a cooking method).

Braizen Food Truck – Calgary

Food trucks are something that is still really new and exciting to me! It seems like they’re coming up with a new truck every week! I don’t follow any trucks religiously, but I do have my favourites that I will eat at if they’re where I’m at! Braizen Food Truck is one of the trucks that I really appreciate. The Braizen food truck is a small black “food truck” that is compact, quick and serves up delicious offerings!

We went on a gloomy Saturday afternoon as they were parked at Deerfoot Meadows – which is one of my favourite locations to enjoy food trucks. I ordered their Harrisa Chicken stew which is a slow cooked chicken stew that sits ontop of quinoa and raisins. This stew is jammed packed with flavour, and it definitely has a nice kick of heat!

We also ordered the Coconut Beef Curry with Potatoes, and this was awesome! You can taste the coconut curry – which is great flavour! I may say at this point this beef curry is my favourite so far from Braizen as it was a perfect curry, and the texture was perfect!

Our friend ordered the Jerk Chicken Sliders with pineapple slaw and he said it was good, but cold. I guess they didn’t toast the buns, which would have made a big impact on a gloomy day. I didn’t get to try it, but it sure tickled my appetite!

Overall, this truck is really good as each dish has bold flavour and it’s definitely well seasoned. The food is amazing and the portions are decent for what you get from a food truck!
